The W Washington D.C. Hotel, which recently underwent a massive remodel that was completed this winter, is welcoming visitors to its beautifully remodeled and rebranded spaces.

As the Architect of Record, Perkins Eastman coordinated with the New York-based design firm, Studio GAIA, and a team of consultants to create a striking design, while facilitating historic preservation approvals for the W Washington D.C. Hotel, a 326-guest room property located in the historic Beaux Arts building. The phased renovation included design and construction of guest rooms, suites, and corridors, the new rooftop bar, an active lobby, full-service restaurant, lower level bar, pre-function areas, meeting rooms, and the ballroom.

The priorities of this major renovation: maximizing the stunning views of the Washington Monument and the National Mall, working with the District’s historic design panel to maintain and enhance the historic details on the exterior of the Beaux Arts Building, exploring opportunities to showcase the work of local artists, and creating elegant and lively gourmet dining and cocktail experiences to attract both visitors and locals to the property, were integral to the project’s success.

“Working on the W Washington D.C., our team was energized to be so integral to the delivery of this beautiful renovation. The hotel’s fascinating history is inspiring, and juxtaposing the old with the new, added a fresh spirit,” said Barbara Mullenex, AIA, Perkins Eastman Principal in Charge for the project. Perkins Eastman also enjoyed the close collaboration between owner ICD, asset manager CHM Warnick, project manager MGAC, operator Marriott International, General Contractor Hitt Contracting, and interior designer Studio Gaia.

Perkins Eastman, long a leader in complex, luxury hotel design, adds the W Washington D.C. to its growing portfolio of hospitality work, which includes The Hoxton Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY, The Quin in NY, NY, Fifth Avenue Hotel in NY, NY, the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and The St. Regis Amman in Amman, Jordan, among others.
