In the run-up to Christmas and New Year, The Idle Rocks in St Mawes, Cornwall, is reintroducing an offer it advertised in the 1950s. Guests staying at the boutique hotel will not be charged for their room for any day during which one inch of snow falls in St Mawes.
Due to Cornwall’s mild climate, however, it has not snowed in St Mawes since 2005. Average daytime temperatures in December are a comfortable 8°C, reaching a high of 21°C in recent years – a similar climate to that of the French Riviera. However, with forecasters predicting snowfall in the coastal town this year, guests may well be in for a Christmas treat.
