Clapham has welcomed its first private members club as The Arding Rooms opened its doors, an exclusive private members club within the iconic Arding & Hobbs building, the historical landmark in Clapham Junction.
With panoramic views from its stunning rooftop terrace, an elegant interior rooted in heritage, and a curated cultural calendar, The Arding Rooms will be a first-of-its-kind destination for the neighbourhood. Positioned moments from Clapham Junction, and just 8 minutes from Victoria and Waterloo, The Arding Rooms is a stylish new space designed for connection, culture, and community, and set to become the creative and social heart of SW11.
The design of The Arding Rooms has been brought to life by x+why’s whydesign team in collaboration with Bath-based historic buildings experts Berdoulat, inspired by the Arts and Crafts heritage of its surroundings. Elements of the original building can still be seen, with the main restaurant space sitting under an exquisite, original domed stained glass window. Antique furniture and objects can be found throughout the club, many referencing the building’s department store past. Interior designers Berdoulat designed the joinery (bar, reception desk) and supplied a bespoke version of one of their Bath dressers.
The Arding Rooms will offer a diverse and inspiring events calendar for its members shaped around four pillars:
-
Wellness – premium programming in partnership with Third Space
-
Arts & Culture – curated talks, live performances, exhibitions and more
-
Food & Beverage – Menus and mixology spotlighting local talent
-
Social – DJ nights and member mixers
The Arding Rooms has developed a menu of seasonal small plates, classic mains, and shareable snacks made with the finest ingredients sourced from trusted producers and makers. Behind the bar, members will find a carefully curated selection of wines and cocktails (like The Arding Room Old Fashioned and house Picante), and a range of non-alcoholic and low-alcohol options.
The Arding Rooms also offers select private hire opportunities across the club, with bespoke catering, curated experiences, and full event support. From intimate dinners, to weddings and large off-site gatherings there is a range of spaces to suit all requirements.
Rupert Dean, co-founder of The Arding Rooms, said: “The Arding Rooms represents everything we believe a modern members club should be—beautiful, inclusive, and rooted in community. It’s been a privilege to help bring new life to this treasured building.
“The interest in The Arding Rooms has been incredible, and it’s clear how much people have been waiting for a home from home like this in Clapham. Whether they come for the culture, the food, the views or the people, we hope members will find a new sense of belonging here in a place they love, and can’t wait to welcome our founding members through the doors.”
Emma Clarke, Head of Membership at The Arding Rooms, said: “From morning yoga on the terrace to live music under the dome and candlelit evenings in our club room, The Arding Rooms offers something genuinely special for every member. We’ve designed membership to be warm, welcoming and inclusive, and will be curating experiences that mean members feel inspired and connected.”
