Set within the dramatic landscape of Poltu Quatu Marina, W Sardinia is a resort shaped by its surroundings. Designed by Meyer Davis, the hotel takes cues from Sardinia’s rugged coastline, layered history, and mythic folklore, translating them into interiors that feel immersive, tactile, and distinctly modern.
The architecture is embedded into the site’s natural topography, with multiple buildings and changing levels creating a natural sense of movement across the resort. Meyer Davis embraced this layout, using it to guide guests through a sequence of spaces that unfold gradually—much like exploring hidden coves along the coast. Interiors shift between intimate and expansive, dark and light, quiet and social.
In the lobby, the design draws inspiration from Sardinian legends of the Janas, mythical figures said to inhabit caves and protect sailors. This influence appears through curved forms, layered lighting, and sculptural elements that reference underwater landscapes. A palette of sand tones, soft neutrals, and deep blues reflects the meeting point of land and sea. Custom ceramic walls, mirrored counters, and hammered metal details echo the movement of water, while original features such as arched openings and Orosei marble flooring were retained to preserve a sense of place.
The W Lounge continues the story with a more relaxed, collected feel. Inspired by objects found along the shoreline, the space combines rope lighting, ceramic tabletops, textured finishes, and locally sourced accessories. A commissioned mural by Kooness, depicting the Phoenician goddess Tanit, anchors the lounge visually and culturally. Warm woods, stone finishes, and a neutral base palette allow the space to shift easily from daytime lounging to evening socialising.
At Tanit, the hotel’s seafood restaurant, the design becomes more expressive. Organic curves, sculptural lighting, and textured plaster surfaces reference marine life and coastal rock formations. Thatched ceilings, terracotta tones, straw accents, and polished nickel finishes add warmth and contrast, while marina views remain central to the dining experience. Social elements, including a chef’s table and DJ booth, reinforce W’s signature energy.
Outdoors, the Wet Deck blends natural materials with playful luxury. Tiered pools, rattan furniture, and sheer-draped cabanas sit against raw stone and continued Orosei marble, creating visual continuity across the resort. Existing features were reworked to form distinct zones for lounging, dining, and events, allowing the space to evolve throughout the day.
Guest rooms offer a calmer counterpoint. Custom ceramic headboards, textured wallcoverings inspired by the Nuraghe civilisation, and traditional Sardinian textiles bring local references into a more restrained, retreat-like setting.
Throughout the property, Meyer Davis balances myth and material, past and present. The result is a resort where design is deeply connected to place—shaped by landscape, informed by history, and delivered with a confident contemporary edge.
