La Valise Bacalar, a twenty-two key treehouse retreat designed by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo will reopen as part of the La Valise brand later this year.
Situated on the shores of the Lagoon of Seven Colours – Laguna Bacalar – the property will bring Namron‘s signature ethos of eco-conscious luxury, craftsmanship, and boutique focus to one of Mexico’s most extraordinary natural corridors. Surrounded by thirty-six hectares of protected jungle linking two nature reserves, over ninety percent of the land remains entirely untouched.

Low impact updates will be made to La Valise Bacalar to elevate the guest experience while honouring its regenerative spirit. Light-touch changes to the wellness areas, rooftop, cenote-style pool and lagoon deck will come later this year.
The hotel’s architecture was masterminded by celebrated Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, known to British design enthusiasts as the youngest architect to design London’s Serpentine Pavilion in 2018. At La Valise Bacalar, Escobedo’s design philosophy ensures that nothing is imposed on the land, with timber treehouse suites and villas which rise lightly on stilts above the forest floor, protecting the underlying soil and surrounding root systems.

Wrapped in intricate wooden screens made from reclaimed chicozapote (an evergreen tree native to Mexico) and regional hardwoods, the structures filter natural light, frame birdsong, and naturally ventilate interior spaces. Guest pathways flow across three distinct levels, spanning the high jungle canopy, the forest floor, and a private wooden deck resting directly on the lagoon.
La Valise Bacalar sits on the edge of the Lagoon of Seven Colours, a freshwater ecosystem famous for its striking turquoise hues and rare stromatolites, gentle living rock formations descended from the earliest life on Earth.
