Nobu Hotel London Portman Square – Now Open

Nobu Hotel London Portman Square has opened its doors to the public today. This highly anticipated opening marks the third collaboration between L+R Hotels and Nobu Hospitality, following the successful launches of Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay and Nobu Restaurant Monte Carlo, and the 13th hotel for the iconic brand, founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper.

Located on a prominent corner of Marylebone’s Portman Square, the hotel features a signature Nobu Restaurant and Nobu Bar with a year-round terrace, plus a fitness centre and wellness facilities. There will also be a 600-person ballroom, launching in 2021.

Grant Campbell, General Manager of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square, commented: “This is a hugely exciting day for the team and I, and we can’t wait to welcome our first guests into the hotel and restaurant. The support that we have had so far has been fantastic – with bookings for the restaurant far exceeding our expectations in the current climate.

Despite the tremendously difficult challenges of the past year, we’re now looking forward to playing our part in the comeback of hospitality in London and beyond.”

Nobu Hotel London Portman Square employs a contemporary approach to both aesthetics and hospitality, taking inspiration from Japanese architectural disciplines and minimalist design, whilst utilising a refined colour palette influenced by heritage Japanese colour combinations.

The new opening sees the iconic Nobu Berkeley Street restaurant move to its new home in Marylebone. Continuing a 15-year legacy of exceptional culinary experiences, the Nobu Restaurant at Nobu Hotel London Portman Square brings the flagship’s signature handcrafted approach to cuisine and service into a brand-new space.

Award-winning David Collins Studio is responsible for the hotel’s public spaces, including; the lobby, The Lounge, Nobu Bar and Restaurant, outdoor terrace, ballroom and boardrooms.

Central to the unique aesthetic of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square is a focus on exceptional craftsmanship, from hand-blown glass chandeliers and bespoke lighting pieces to large scale sculpture and original artworks. Upon entering the lobby, guests will immediately be struck by a dramatic high ceiling, from which hangs a kinetic sculpture created by award-winning British sculptor, Ivan Black. The five metre installation features rotating metal fins that cast a subtle effect of light and shade into the room, evoking an initial sense of theatre.

Suspended above the reception console is a sculptural cloud statement pendant light created by world-renowned freehand glass blower, Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert. Exemplifying the hotel’s hand-crafted approach to design, Maxwell’s piece employs traditional glass-blowing techniques to create a one-of-a-kind lighting sculpture.

Rooms and suites by Make Architects echo a distinct character and allure seen in the rest of the hotel, primarily influenced by Japanese minimalist aesthetic and complemented by moments of bold artistic expression. Striking wall prints, bespoke lighting and intricate joinery take centre stage in each room, set against the backdrop of a subtle, textural palette. An abundance of natural light and materials create a sense of place that is calm, bright and warm.

Guests can book from a range of elegantly appointed rooms and suites across seven distinct categories – some boasting terraces with views overlooking Portman Square. Those seeking something more indulgent can choose from the [One Bedroom Suite] and The Nobu Penthouse.

The hotel is owned and was developed by L+R Hotels; a group renowned for its portfolio of some of the world’s most respected and prestigious hotels and resorts, including Cliveden House, Chewton Glen, Hilton Park Lane and Fairmont Monte Carlo.
