Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) appoints Philip Gillard as Principal and Managing Director of HBA MENA

World-leading hospitality design firm HBA has announced the appointment of Philip Gillard as the Principal and Managing Director of HBA MENA. Based out of HBA’s Dubai studio, Philip will lead Middle East operations and will help develop the group’s expansion in the region.

As a RIBA Chartered Architect With 25 years industry experience, Philip has successfully produced and managed a diverse portfolio spanning architecture, interior design, and master planning; with projects ranging from high-profile hospitality and residential to retail and commercial design across the region. 

Philip Gillard comments “HBA has a long-held reputation for being leaders in luxury and inspired hospitality design with an unrivalled 360-degree service that harnesses the specialities of a global team.

“I am excited to champion and nurture this dynamic and talented team as we continue to expand our services across the MENA markets.”

With significant experience working in the Middle East, Philip’s market knowledge and sensibilities will support and champion HBA MENA’s continued strategic growth. His appointment comes after the launch of a new studio in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in October 2020, which opened as a response to a rising demand for HBA’s services in the region.

As Principal, Philip will work closely with HBA’s Executive Board. HBA EMENA Managing Partner Andrew Moore comments “Philip’s Architectural background project experience and excellent leadership skills will enable HBA MENA to continue to serve our clients and remain at the forefront of luxury hospitality design in the region and beyond. 

“We are excited and optimistic for the continued growth of the MENA market and the opportunities that the future landscape brings to our group.”

Bringing an international outlook to the role having travelled extensively in UK, USA, China and Middle East, Philip will lead a multicultural team of over 45 talented designers, guiding them in delivering thoughtful design responses, curating their skills and creative diversities.

With specialist divisions including lighting, graphics and art curation, HBA MENA’s end-to-end offering produces inspired, brand-strengthening design experiences that reflect a true sense of place. Highlighting the firm’s dynamic approach to the ever-evolving market is HBA EMEA’s sub-brand Studio HBA. This young, energetic and versatile team are nimble in their approach to design, offering solutions for the growing sector of mid-market hospitality projects.
