D&D launches Summer Sculpture Competition to support World Water Week

Prominent restaurant group, D&D London, has teamed up with ethical water company, Belu, and international charity, WaterAid, to launch the first World Water Week Summer Sculpture Competition. The new competition aims to raise awareness for the 768 million people in the world living without safe, clean water. The winner will be revealed during World Water Week, which will take place between 1st-6th September this year.

Up-and-coming British designers are being asked to create an innovatove and eye-catching water sculpture design made from up to 2000 glass bottles of Belu mineral water – which will be collected and recycled from D&D’s renowned London restaurant, Coq d’Argent. Each bottle will represent the almost 2000 children that die each day of diseases caused by unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation.

Belu donates 100% of its profits to WaterAid, helping the charity transform the lives of some of the world’s poorest communities by providing access to safe, clean water, sanitation and hygiene – an endeavour D&D has supported by stocking Belu water since 2008.

Submitted designs will be judged by experts from the restaurant, art and charity worlds. The winning design will then be constructed and revealed on the striking roof-top terrace of Coq D’Argent.

A glamorous launch party will play host to the big reveal, and the sculpture will sit on the sky-high terrace throughout September. Aside from having their creation on public view against the impressive backdrop of the city, the winning designer will also receive an all-expenses-paid city experience, including a dinner at Coq D’Argent and an overnight stay at the South Place Hotel.

D&D MD, David Loewi, comments: “As longstanding supporters of Belu and WaterAid’s efforts to bring clean water and sanitation to some of the world’s poorest communities, D&D London is thrilled to participate in this fun and unconventional way of raising awareness for this brilliant cause.”

For a copy of the brief and to submit a sculpture design, readers should contact Sophie McCready, head of marketing at Belu, via email at [email protected]. The deadline for entries is 24th July.
