Raffles brings luxury to the tropical island of Hainan

Raffles Hotels & Resorts will reach a new milestone next month with the opening of Raffles Hainan at Hainan Island. The hotel will be the group’s second property in China – following Ruffles Beijing – and tenth overall. Raffles Hainan will open in Clearwater Bay, a 500km² development on the island’s south-east coast, and will enjoy a prime beachfront location.

Each of the 299 rooms – starting at 80m² – and 32 villas will offer private balconies with scenic views of the ocean or golf course. The rooms and suites will have contemporary design combined with locally-inspired accents. Artisan wood furnishings, colourful fabrics and artworks pay homage to the traditional hill tribes in Hainan, bringing a sense of place to the interior.

The hotel will also offer seven restaurants and bars, a range of private event spaces – including a beachfront pavilion and a ballroom – and a spa offering Asian and Western treatments.

Raffles Hotels & Resorts’ connection to art will continue in Hainan with a display of over 1000 pieces throughout the hotel. Curated by Hong Kong-based Willow Gallery, the exhibition will include specially-commissioned works from contemporary Chinese artists, sculptures, tribal ornaments and multimedia art.

Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, general manager at Raffles Hainan, says: “Raffles Hainan will be one of the most prestigious addresses on China’s popular holiday island as the first luxury opening on Clearwater Bay – the only resort adjoining championship golf courses and with Sanya’s largest guest rooms, all with sea-view balconies. With the addition of Raffles’ signature warm and graceful service embodied by the Raffles butlers, we are setting a new luxury benchmark on the island.”

Peter French, president at Raffles Hotels & Resorts, adds: “Drawing on the timeless quality of the flagship Raffles Singapore, Raffles Hainan continues our commitment to bringing 125 years of heritage and experience in bespoke luxury service to our strategic expansion.”
