Contractor McAleer & Rushe has begun work on a £50m contract to build two Hilton hotels and 59 apartments for London-based developer, That Group, at Terrace Mount, Bournemouth.
Bournemouth’s Mayor, Councillor Rod Cooper joined senior McAleer & Rushe and That Group directors and guests at the town-centre site at a celebratory ceremony.
The landmark scheme, designed by Cube in association with White Ink Architects, inlcudes a 13-storey, 172-bedroom, four-star Hilton hotel with 14 exclusive residential apartments above. This is in addition to an eight-storey 120-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel and 45 apartments with a 224-space, three-storey deep, underground car park and associated landscaping. Work is scheduled to complete in the summer of 2015.
McAleer & Rushe construction director, Martin Magee, says: “This ceremony marks a very significant occasion for the future prosperity of Bournemouth. That Group has delivered a massive vote of confidence in the local economy with its considerable investment, and McAleer & Rushe is very proud to be playing its part in the regeneration of this key strategic site.

McAleer & Rushe is also two months from completing a £19m contract to build the first Hampton by Hilton in central London. With 297 bedrooms, this will be the largest hotel for the award-winning mid-priced brand in the UK when measured by the number of rooms. The contractor is also nearing the completion of an £11m contract to convert a former office building to a Hampton by Hilton at Longbridge House, Gatwick.
