Astro has given a fresh interpretation to one of its retro success stories with the new Joel range of table lamps, wall lights, floor lamps and pendants. Joel is a contemporary reincarnation of an Astro original, which was based on a classic mid-20th century lighting design. Astro will exhibit at Sleep on stand M10.
“The inspiration for the new Joel comes from a light I designed for Astro when the company launched 15 years ago,” says design director and co-founder, James Bassant. “At the time it was unashamedly retro, but this new collection has subtle twists in form and finish which bring it right up to date, while retaining unmistakable references to the post-war classics which inspired it.
“I actually stumbled upon it when rooting around in my loft, and knew immediately that it was ripe for a makeover.”
In keeping with current trends for interiors, Astro’s design team chose polished chrome, matt black and matt cream as the finish options for the steel shade, while the goblet shape remains evocative of a celebrated design era.
Flexible knuckle joints and height adjustment for the floor lamp ensure practicality with a quality feel, and the range can take low energy E27 LEDs. All are IP20 rated.
