Nobu Hotel, Las Vegas

After years of collaborating with the Nobu brand’s luxury restaurants worldwide, Rockwell Group has now created a unique hotel, handcrafted to evoke Nobu‘s philosophy and playful style.

With 170 guest rooms, 18 suites and an 11,200ft² restaurant to work with, New York-based design firm, Rockwell Group, was short on neither space nor scope to achieve this distinctive design vision.

Taking Nobu’s signature Japanese style as his starting point, founder and CEO, David Rockwell, has infused a touch of Las Vegas glamour through his artful use of oversized elements.

Sharing in this design vision, Robert DeNiro – who has co-funded and provided creative direction for all of the Nobu restaurants - and Chef Nobu, founding chief of Nobu Restaurants, helped to handpick design elements for the hotel’s rooms and suites.

The very best of Eastern and Western influences come together within the hotel’s guest rooms, where raw, natural materials help to create the ideal setting for relaxation and rejuvenation.

A palette of neutral tones is juxtaposed with popping hints of gold and purple, providing the ideal canvas for an artfully-curated collection of graphics and artwork. This selection of custom pieces from emerging Japanese artists, ranging from classic to expressionist in style, brings a bespoke feel to the rooms, while a feature wall displaying a custom ‘shodo’ style calligraphy provides a striking focal point.

The selection of furniture was influenced by these same natural themes, and was inspired by Japanese-American woodworker, architect and furniture maker, George Nakashima.

Continuing the theme of organic materials and natural forms, the guest bathrooms feature a complementary blend of teak fittings and stone tile. Classic elements combine artfully with modern fittings to create a sleek, yet characterful aesthetic. The over-sized walk-in shower, for example, features multiple showerheads, while also making use of traditional black Umi tiles. Teak bathing stools – a traditional fixture in Japanese bathhouses – also help to add cultural flavour.

In the spirit of Las Vegas, on the other hand, the gargantuan Nobu Hotel suites offer a host of luxurious amenities. From media rooms, to billiard rooms and bar areas, the suites feature timeless colour palettes and luxury furnishings, while still retaining a prominent sense of the Nobu brand’s unique identity.
