Fresh design for Theo Randall at the InterContinental

This year, InterContinental London Park Lane marks 10 years since acclaimed chef Theo Randall launched his award-winning Italian restaurant, Theo Randall at the InterContinental.

To celebrate this milestone, Theo has worked to enhance his much-loved menu of simple rustic Italian dishes with a renewed focus on seasonality and sharing. The interior design has also undergone a refresh by the award-winning creative agency Superfutures, which was inspired by bringing Theo’s food to life at the No. 1 Park Lane location.

Responsible for the design of restaurants such as Chotto Matte and Barrafina, Superfutures was briefed to create a space that complements the cuisine and delivers an enriched restaurant experience. With this in mind, the new restaurant pays subtle homage to Italian culture through use of materials such as Terrazzo and Carrera marble, as well as muted green olive and grey tones, which are a nod to its rural palette.

The original space has been split into more intimate zones, which have been separated with anodised brass screens to allow for flow while maintaining privacy. Tailor-made rounded chairs and sofa-like seating create a soft and inviting space. A mix of oak and Carrera marble dining tables in various sizes offer flexible dining configurations and provide a natural contrast to the comfort of the seating. Bespoke lighting has been introduced to help define the different spaces and facilitate the restaurant’s transformation from day to night.

The refresh also sees the installation of a new high level kitchen table designed for up to eight, which looks straight into the heart of the kitchen. A tasting menu created 24 hours beforehand guarantees a truly seasonal and unique dining experience. The bar area has also undergone a significant redesign to incorporate a sommeliers table, ideal for large group entertaining or for a casual pre-dinner drink. An extensive collection of wines will also be on display on exposed brass racks and in chilled cabinets.

On the re-design, director at Superfutures, Ben Webb, says: “Great Italian food is about simple ingredients that, when combined, create fantastic flavours. With this in mind we did not want to create a rustic Italian restaurant, but a more refined environment that allows the simple materials to do the talking as a back drop to the cuisine.”

In addition to the popular existing private dining room, the interior update has introduced a second private room, which connects via a sliding door and seats up to 40 guests.  When connected together the room can welcome a seated event of 60 and 100 for a drinks reception. The space will also host Theo’s regular masterclasses.

Theo explains: “We worked closely with the designers to ensure that the food was at the centre of the interiors. I think the result is an intimate and inviting space that still maintains the Park Lane sophistication.”

The exciting interior refresh at Theo Randall’s eponymous restaurant will be debuted at the re-opening on 18th February.
