Manufacturer of unique, self-adjusting table bases, StableTable, has worked with design firms Stylt Trampoli and Input Interior on a redesign of the Palace restaurant in Gothenburg, Sweden. The venue is renowned for its popularity with Scandinavian artists in the late 19th century.
The city of Gothenburg is located on the rainy west coast of Sweden. Proprietor of the Palace restaurant came up with an innovative solution to avoiding rain and falling leaves – as opposed to moving diners indoors, he moved the whole seating area inside.
An outdoor seating area was created, which can be converted to a covered area thanks to its retractable glass walls and flexible roof. The slate floor was kept in tact, and this – alongside the plants and garden-like furniture – adds to the interior design style of “granny’s garden meets contemporary flair”.
The recent renovation project has been centered on core values such as creativity, quality and sustainability, and the furniture has been carefully designed and selected. StableTable was commissioned to deliver its patented self-stabilising table bases, to ensure that the guests would not have to worry about wobbly tables – in spite of the natural unevenness of the slate floor. The table bases were made-to-order in a carefully-selected white finish, which matches the elaborate chairs, wicker armchairs and marble table tops.
The wobble-free table bases from StableTable are a good example of the notion that design is not only about the way things look, but also how they work. Thanks to the self-adjusting tables, guests can enjoy a peaceful meal without worrying about irritating wobbly tables or spilled drinks.
Furthemore, valuable working time can be used on driving additional sales instead of adjusting screws or folding napkins to be put under wobbly tables. Seating can be rearranged in seconds, providing room for additional guests and thus helping to increase revenues.
The continued success and attraction of Palace builds on its past, but its tradition is continuously updated with modern design, functionality and ingenuity.
