Lanes of London, Park Lane

London’s prestigious Park Lane is now home to a brand new restaurant and bar, inspired by the rich diversity of the capital’s cuisine, and expertly designed by award-winning restaurant design agency, Blacksheep.

From the Indian eateries synonymous with Brick Lane, through Edgware Road’s celebrated Lebanese cuisine and Portobello Road’s British classics, the capital’s food offering is delightfully varied. In celebration of this, acclaimed executive head chef, Anshu Anghotra, has created a menu of authentic, yet innovative dishes which offers guests a chance to experience a true taste of London’s globally-influenced food scene.

Creating an environment befitting of this melange of culinary influences provided an interesting challenge for Blacksheep, and the design team drew inspiration for the interior from Samuel Johnson’s 18th century poem, London, which captures this celebration of vibrancy and diversion: “By seeing London, I have seen as much of life as the world can show.”

Housed in a late Edwardian mansion block designed by Frank Verity in the 1800s, the space has a naturally classic feel, but Blacksheep has added a contemporary twist to suggest something of the brand’s new and distinctive personality.

The stylish bar area creates an immediate sense of impact upon first entering the building. Striking bevelled mirrors and a blend of clear and coloured glass anchor the union of classical and contemporary influences. The glamorous mirrored chimney breast and elegant fireplace provide a warm, welcoming feel, while plush grey velvet curtains in both the bar and restaurant emulate the theatre, excitement and entertainment that surround this brand.

The restaurant certainly upholds this sense of drama. Screens made from a variety of antiqued and coloured olive glass detail add an element of intrigue to the venue’s layout, while also providing guests with the option to dine in privacy. Large bay windows with elevated views onto Speaker’s Corner and Marble Arch unite the more traditional design elements of the interior with a sense of being in and amongst the hustle and bustle of modern-day London.

Blacksheep has made use of a variety of materials throughout the space, including a range of marble, aged brass, traditional leaded glazing, racing green leather, rustic oak and antique detailing.

Whether breakfast, after-work drinks or a sit-down meal are the order of the day, Blacksheep has created a dynamic and immensely characterful space which effortlessly supports the characteristics and aspirations of this exciting new brand.
