The Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge has been revealed after a nine-month renovation

The Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge has been revealed after a nine-month renovation of the 760 year old property. Nestled at the foot of the famous Box Hill, Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge could easily be mistaken for one of many historic countryside inns which dot the landscape, but inside reveals an unexpected side to this beautiful hotel.

Mercure, a locally inspired brand, has drawn inspiration for the interior design from the literary roots of the area and the historic background of the hotel.

Upon arrival into the open spaced lobby area, Mercure’s innovative ‘la table d’hôtes’ concept, ensures the customer welcome is at the heart of the guest experience. The hotel’s feature wall has been created using locally sourced flint, a material that is usually found in the idyllic Surrey Hills.

Light oak floors and heritage blues are featured throughout the hotels public spaces, restaurant and bar, to ensure a consistent feeling of relaxation and safety.

Giant bespoke chairs featuring the lines from John Keats’s poem Endymion create a talking point for today’s guest. It is unsurprising that the poem which he wrote at the hotel begins with the line, “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.”

The hotel’s library area is filled with retro Penguin Books and includes works by Robert Louis Stevenson and Jane Austen. This allows guests to submerge themselves into a literary world for their stay.

There is a further nod to Jane Austen in the hotels two AA rosette award restaurant.  A quote from her classic novel, “Emma” can be seen written on the wall reminding guests of the picnic from the book, which took place on Box Hill.

As far as the eye can see there are beautiful pieces adorning the walls and tables of the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge hotel. From centrepieces containing orchids to reflect Box Hill being an area of scientific interest; to Dorking cockerels hanging on the wall in the hotel bar and lounge – the striking accessories encourage talkability and conversation between guests and staff.

Light, open and staying true to the hotels heritage, Mercure Burford Bridge Box Hill provides guests with everything they need for their stay.

The hotel provides guests with 57 bedrooms, which are elegantly styled with a contemporary and luxurious design. Each room showcases artwork depicting the surrounding landscape. To ensure guests have everything they need to enjoy a relaxing stay, each bedroom has been furnished with a new flat screen TV with international satellite channels and 24-hour room service is available. High speed WiFi is available throughout the hotel free of charge.

There are eight event spaces at the hotel from the Lady Hamilton Room, which can seat up to 16 delegates to Tithe Barn. The Barn is the biggest event space and was originally built in 1600. It’s stunning vaulted ceiling, which was taken from the galleons of the Spanish Armada will make the perfect space for weddings and special events.

The gardens are also beautifully landscaped and feature a 1930’s style, heated lido all adding to the hotels character.

Jonathan Sheard, SVP Operations Luxury, Upscale & Midscale Hotels, Accor UK & Ireland said, “We delved into the history of the area and the property in order to create this locally inspired hotel. This is the second flagship Mercure hotel to boast our new lobby concept where guests will feel immediately expected. We are proud to welcome people to this beautifully restored hotel.”

Trevillion Interiors has worked closely with the Mercure team on the design and feel of the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge hotel.
