Brighton boutique guest house undergoes striking refurbishment

NINETEEN, the first Brighton guest house (B&B) to offer ’boutique’ styling and service 14 years ago has completed a major refurbishment to keep it at the cutting edge of sophisticated modern style.

Set in a 200 year old Victorian town house on the Kemp side of Brighton, the guest house won awards when it opened in 2000. It prides itself on offering the comforts and quality standards of larger hotels, but with a more personal ‘feel at home’ style. With just seven bedrooms, guests can choose between double and king size rooms (the latter have oblique views of Brighton Pier and the sea) and there’s even the option to stay in the Courtyard Room, which has its own private hot tub in a small adjoining courtyard.

Each of its 7 bedrooms now has brand new ensuite shower and toilet facilities; larger rooms also have a bath and twin washbasin. The bedrooms have new double glazed sash windows, internet connected HDTVs with Freeview, a Cambridge Audio bluetooth speaker, complimentary South Downs mineral water and fresh fruit, plus there’s free Wi-Fi throughout.

Bedrooms are styled in white, with new dark oak flooring and works of local and international contemporary art adding colour to the luxury minimalist feel. Each bright and airy bedroom has been decorated using ‘eco’ natural mineral paints, which is perfect for allergy sufferers, because they don’t contain any petro-chemicals.

Proprietor Mark McCullough says, “This has been a big investment, but Nineteen once again looks just the way we want it to – clean, sleek, modern and stylish.”

Fluffy white towels and bathrobes, slippers, premium quality cotton bed linen and a feather and down king size duvet are in all the rooms (but man made fibre duvet and pillows are available for allergy sufferers on request). Just one slightly smaller double room has a double bed, but the other six rooms have king sized beds, and all have pocket sprung mattresses.
