Legal Sea Foods, Reagan National Airport

Architecture and design firm GrizForm Design Architects has completed its first collaboration with Legal Sea Foods to design the brand’s newest location for Washington, DC’s Reagan National Airport. Principal and founder of GrizForm, Griz Dwight took the 1960s and 70s golden age of business travel as his inspiration for the 5560ft² bilevel space – evoking subtle sophistication with a modern twist.

Marking the first airport project for the award-winning hospitality architecture and design firm, Legal Sea Foods is designed to stand out. Surrounded by many uniform and perfunctory concepts in the terminal, the GrizForm project team took this opportunity to raise the bar on casual airport dining.

The restaurant offers distinct areas  for those wanting to dine, drink, work or relax. Travellers enter through the lower level, where an inviting open floor plan sets the tone for the space.

Once inside, guests will find a large bar area, indoor/outdoor patio, and raw bar concept. The project team employed clean lines throughout this dining level, including a mixture of dark and light woods, furniture upholstered in saffron-coloured leather, and touches of brass.

At the 46-seat bar, a smoky translucent ceiling creates a dramatic and sophisticated element for travellers to enjoy. For those needing to plug in, the bar area will have a continuous line of power outlets to connect and charge gadgets preflight.

On the upper level, the design team created a lounge and 20-seat glass-enclosed private dining area offering intimacy and a view of the surrounding area. Customised nesting cocktail tables, which can be used for guests to dine or work, are placed throughout the lounge space. Travellers can enjoy their time lounging in tufted smoking and wingback chairs set in green and saffron-coloured leather while they wait for their flight. GrizForm also designed the custom carpet and a tufted suspended ceiling to help with sound.

The new Legal Sea Foods at Reagan National Airport breathes modern style into Terminal B, offering guests a more refined dining experience with the option to enjoy a drink, a leisurely meal, or just sit back and answer emails during their layover.
