Saint-Gobain launches iconic building competition

Saint-Gobain, a leader in the sustainable habitat and construction markets, has launched a competition to discover its fans’ favourite buildings and landmarks in the UK and Ireland.

From childhood homes to innovative designs, entrants are being asked to upload images of their most loved buildings on Facebook and Twitter and to share the reasons why it is special to them.

A shortlist of entries will then be compiled by panelists and put to a public Facebook vote; the shortlist will also be on display at Saint-Gobain’s Innovation Centre, in London. The entry with the most ‘Likes’ will receive dinner for two at one of the most iconic buildings in the UK; The Shard.

In addition, judges will select their favourite submission, who will receive a digital camera. Throughout the competition, entrants have the chance to win a series of weekly prizes given away at random.

Richard Halderthay, Director of Communications for Saint-Gobain UK, Ireland & South Africa, says: “2015 is an exciting year for us at Saint-Gobain. As the year of our 350th birthday, we thought launching this competition to recognise all types of buildings and landmarks in UK and Ireland would be the perfect way to kick off the celebrations.

“With a series of events planned throughout the year, we are celebrating the history of Saint-Gobain and the optimism we have for a strong future, serialised through our 350 reasons to believe in the future.

“Over our long history, innovation and an understanding of the changing world around us has seen us adapt to the needs of the day – just as our buildings have to.

“This competition gives an opportunity to ask the public which buildings or landmarks they most cherish and why. I think what will be striking from this competition is the sheer variety of the buildings that the public hold dear, and how adaptable and innovative the designers of yesterday and today are to continually reinvent the form that our buildings take and what a lasting impact they have on so many.”

Competition entries will be accepted until midday, 5 March 2015.

Enter the competition by visiting Saint-Gobain’s Facebook page or tweet @SaintGobainUK using the hashtag #SGcomp.
