The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa unveils transformed interior

Following a period of extensive renovation work, the historic Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa has unveiled its striking new reception space to the public.

Situated in the Cheshire countryside on the border of Wales, The Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa’s origins date back to the eighteenth century and many of its original features can still be seen today. In 1994, Nelson Hotels assumed ownership of the hotel and the family-owned group has since doubled the size of the property, transforming it into an award-winning four star hotel and spa.

The company’s latest investment has focused on the renovation of the hotel’s main entrance and reception area. This ambitious £1.5m project has included the construction of a two storey reception area with a new entrance. A mezzanine floor has been erected above the reception, providing guests with a contemporary break out and lounge area, while a number of guest bedrooms and two function suites have also been refurbished.

Nelson Hotels appointed NH Interiors as the project’s interior designers. The award-winning company is renowned for creating highly individualised interiors that are elegant and classical in style, with a contemporary twist. “Due to the hotel’s extensive history, we knew this project would be exciting and impressive,” explains senior interior designer, Lucy Yarwood. “We wanted to create a new level of opulence throughout and we are delighted with the way everything has come together. We look forward to seeing the hotel’s guests experiencing and enjoying these wonderful surroundings.”

A glass wall at the front of the property offers guests a glimpse into the new interiors and an impressive sweeping stone staircase leads up to the mezzanine floor overlooking the new reception area. The Nelson family commissioned the reception desk from the iconic furniture maker, William Yeoward, who adapted one of his signature pieces, the Arley console, to create the design.

The centrepiece of this extensive project is an impressive chandelier that cascades from the roof to the reception below. Fifty cut crystal candles are suspended on clear wires to give the impression that they are floating in mid-air. Limestone floors, hand-tufted rugs and sumptuous soft furnishings complete the luxurious décor.

The hotel’s smaller function suites, meanwhile, have also been elegantly refurbished. Soft greys and creams are enhanced by a sophisticated lighting system that can be programmed to complement a chosen theme or style.

“Historically and architecturally, different aspects of the hotel have been redeveloped and modernised,” says hotel owner, Susan Nelson said. “Having focused on these areas individually, the hotel lacked consistency from both an aesthetic and practical point of view. We wanted this investment to address this issue by bringing together the disparate parts of the hotel.

“The result is spectacular and we are thrilled to have achieved our objective. A stunning central hub has now been created in which we can greet and welcome our guests. Our beautifully refurbished smaller function suites will give clients more choice and the updated guest bedrooms will enhance their stay. We are absolutely elated with every aspect of this project and proud to build upon our reputation as one of Cheshire’s finest hotels.”
