Mason & Company set to open in Hackney Wick

The best of the craft beer world meets Italian-American fare at Mason & Company, a new craft beer bar and kitchen opening on the 17th of June at Canalside in Hackney Wick, part of the Here East creative hub in the Olympic Park.

Behind the new opening is Ed Mason, founder of Hackney’s Five Points Brewing Company, and Rachel Jones, founder of street food stall, Capish?. Mason & Company will be a continuation of the East London craft beer legacy started by Mason & Taylor in 2010 and will mark the first bricks and mortar home for Capish? who have long been a KERB, Street Feast and pop-up favourite.

Mason & Company aims to be London’s first port of call for craft beer with a constantly changing selection over 20 draught taps and a wide array of bottled and canned brews.

A destination for new beer launches, food and beer pairings, exclusives, and ‘Meet The Brewer’ events, the Mason & Company bar will showcase only independently owned breweries including newest offerings from the best and brightest UK brewers.

In addition to beer, there will be coffee from London roasters Alchemy, along with a stock of natural wines and artisan spirits from small producers

Working with Hackney-based Fleet Architects, Mason & Company makes use of a palette of natural materials to give softness and warmth. Timber furniture and flooring wraps the entire bar and the seating lights the space – narrowboat livery patterns are disguised within the seat panels, revealing themselves when darkness falls and the lights switch on.

Diamond tiles, textured upholstery, and reeded glass chime against ‘off-the-peg’ materials playfully misused such as the raw concrete copings which form the bar front.

This approach has created an accessible, light and refined atmosphere, acting as an antidote to the ubiquitous found in industrial spaces and enhancing the canalside environment. With close proximity to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Mason & Company will be the ideal site to enjoy the sunshine, with enviable views of the canal from its large glass windows and outdoor seating.
