Leading commercial furniture manufacturer, The Boss Design Group, has won a National Recycling Award for its outstanding work in the field of recycling.

The results of the National Recycling Awards 2016 (NRA’s) were revealed on 6th July 2016 at the prestigious London Hilton, Park Lane, where key players from a variety of industries came together to recognise and celebrate the excellence and innovation present throughout the recycling and resource management sector.

Boss Design won the NRA’s Corporate Recycler of the Year category and was praised by the expert judging panel: “The sustainable beliefs that Boss Design uphold are clearly demonstrated throughout its entire operation. Recycling is firmly embedded into its business model, from the design and manufacture of its products, to providing sales solutions that a have low-impact on the environment. The company shows commitment from all levels of staff and continues to push the boundaries of recycling, waste reduction and resource efficiency.”

“We are acutely aware of our responsibilities to our people and to the environment and are therefore extremely proud to accept this prestigious award in recognition of our recycling efforts,” says Virginia Seward, operations Manager at The Boss Design Group.

From its multi-sited manufacturing facilities in the West Midlands, the Boss Design Group recycles on average more than 252.14t per annum across a variety of its manufacturing materials. These include cardboard, fabrics, foam, leather, metal, wood and paper.

The company re-used over 20,000 pallets during 2006-2015, with just over 3,500 re-used in 2015 alone. In addition, over 1,000t of chairs were reused or recycled during 2006-2015 via the Waste to Wonder scheme. This scheme touches local and worldwide causes by extending the lives of chairs and at the same time, liberating the lives of those who receive them.

During the period, 2006 to 2013, the Group also reduced its landfill skips from 260 to 132, and since 2014, has diverted 257.13t from landfill to Sita Energy Recovery; thereby making the company a zero landfill factory.

The National Recycling Awards 2016 recognises and highlights the excellence and innovation present throughout the recycling and resource management sector today. They represent the awards that companies aspire to win and are judged by peers from across the industry.
