The 15-room TRUNK(HOTEL) made waves when it arrived on Japan’s hospitality scene back in 2017. Following on from this success, the group is set to open a new property, TRUNK(HOUSE) this August in the historic Kagurazaka neighbourhood of Tokyo.

In 2018, TRUNK founder, Yoshitaka Nojiri, and the TRUNK design team took over a 70-year-old two storey former geisha house tucked away in the sought after cultural hub of the Kagurazaka neighbourhood.

Having assumed ownership of the building, TRUNK initated an extensive restoration project to transform both the exterior and interior.

TRUNKS in-house interior design team, TRUNK Atelier, and Tokyo-based interior design studio, Tripster, have worked in collaboration to create a masterful townhouse environment that will would offer travellers a dynamic and immersvive hospitality experience.

The team was also passionate abou preserving a piece of Tokyo that is home to a thriving arts, culture and literature scene.

TRUNK(HOUSE) is a discrete space, bearing the restored original outward appearance of a traditional geisha house. Once guests step into the townhouse hotel, they are transported into a Tokyo residential style of living.

The stylish public spaces include a living room and garden where guests can escape the bustle of the city; a small but perfectly-formed disco with a state-of-the-art karaoke machine; a dining room and kitchen offering a special menu of local and international dishes; a tearoom, and bath areas outfitted with an aromatic Japanese cypress bathtub.
