Historic Docklands landmarks transformed for new Dublin hotel

The Mayson, a design-led hotel from Irish hospitality group, Press Up Entertainment, will open in the heart of Dublin this December.

Created for ‘business travellers, explorers and city dwellers’, the hotel will offer 94 bedrooms and suites, a Power Gym, The Bottle Boy Pub, The Green Dolphin Barber, The Mayson Bar, DIME Coffee, Ryleigh’s Rooftop Restaurant and The Timberyard event space.

The Mayson consists of two protected, and poorly maintained structures that have been sewn together beautifully.

“This exciting restoration project is a redevelopment of No.81 and No.82 North Wall Quay,” explains Dave O’Shea from ODOS. “Both buildings were in a dilapidated condition and had not been used in over two decades. The concept was to redevelop these strikingly unique buildings by drawing on their existing, inherent characters.

“The ambition for No.81 was to retain a public house on the ground floor, resulting in minimal intervention to the existing structure and restoring the original features. No.82 is one of the few remaining warehouse structures on the north quays and presented a rare opportunity to establish this forgotten building.”

Each building has its own distinctive style. No.81, the original pub building designed as a townhouse and public house in 1860, now houses the cosy Bottle Boy Pub, The Green Dolphin Barber for a fade or a blade and seven glorious townhouse style suites and bedrooms above.

The second building began life as a cattle and timber warehouse in 1870. The original brickwork façade was retained and temporarily held up by supporting it from the outside with shipping containers, filled with concrete blocks. In a feat of engineering a nine-story steel framed building was inserted within the original red brick walls, creating a magnificent blend of old and new.

This building is now home to 87 bedrooms and suites including Warehouse Suites, Small Double Rooms, HiFi, Super Rooms and a striking Penthouse.
