Formica laminate brings a fresh look to French hotel

Architecture firm, Icom Architects, specified Formica laminate for the renovation of the two-star Hotel Mister Bed, which is located in Bagnolet on the outskirts of Paris. Following the client’s brief for a modern and stylish design, AR Plus and ColorCore by Formica Group – alongside laminate from the Formica Woods range – were used to create a contemporary aesthetic throughout the reception as well as the breakfast and information areas.

The luxurious and welcoming reception area features AR Plus high-gloss laminate in Diamond Black with Oiled Walnut in Matte 58 texture from the Formica Woods range. As well as giving a stylish and contemporary aesthetic, the high-gloss finish proved a practical choice. It provides a reflective surface, bouncing light into and around the rooms. Together with the deep, rich colour of the Oiled Walnut, the surfaces give a luxurious appearance.

To further complement the wood, Amarena from the Formica Colors range in Matte 58 texture was used for the drinks sideboard and to add to the blues, greens and oranges that were already on the walls.

To continue the modern theme and give a feeling of open space, ColorCore surface in black gloss was used for the top guest tables. The hardwearing characteristics of ColorCore make it suitable for high-traffic environments where there is a risk of scratching and impact damage.

“Design and practicality are of the utmost importance in the hospitality environment,” Icom Architects explains. “Formica HPL was perfect for this project, as it offers a highly decorative, hygienic and low-maintenance surface – essential in high-traffic environments such as hotels. At the same time the colours and finishes on offer allowed us to create very exciting visual effects and a sophisticated look.”

Formica HPL is GreenGuard certified, and has introduced FSC-certified laminates manufactured in its European plants. Formica Group also became the first laminate manufacturer in the world to be awarded the Carbon Trust’s Carbon Reduction Label.
