Muraspec’s art deco glamour inspires at DoubleTree by Hilton, Edinburgh

When Ica was appointed as architect and interior designer on the rebranding of a leading hotel in Edinburgh, the quality of interior finishes was paramount to restoring the historic splendour of the building. Muraspec‘s wallcoverings offered an ideal solution.

Aesthetically pleasing and constructed in contract-strength vinyl, Muraspec’s wallcoverings provide an ideal option for projects in which neither elegant design nor commercial functionality can be compromised.

Originally constructed in 1892, the building has since been extended and converted into The Point Hotel in the late 1990s. The new-look DoubleTree by Hilton property is one of understated luxury, with opulent, tactile finishes throughout.

The interior draws heavily on the building’s history, with reference to glamorous 1930s-era art deco finishes. The transformation starts in the hotel’s reception and lobby, where Muraspec’s Maya Romanoff Studio wallcovering in Labyrinth has been used on walls and columns. This tactile design in warm neutrals brings subtle texture to surfaces.

All 139 bedrooms and en suites have been completely refurbished using Maya Romanoff Studio wallcovering in Oyster Bar for the bedheads. Complementing the warm tones used throughout, the pearlescent sheen of Oyster Bar catches the light and gives a luxurious glow. Based on Maya Romanoff’s original mother-of-pearl wall tiles, this wallcovering is both aesthetic and practical.

Muraspec wallcoverings can also be found in the corridors, where Grecian ideally complements the eye-catching carpet. With a natural sense of touch, Grecian’s fabric-inspired tactile finish has careful colouring with just a hint of lustre. The wallcovering is also ideal for the clean style of the board room and meeting rooms in the conference centre.

Muraspec has been designing, producing and distributing wallcoverings for the hotel and hospitality industries worldwide for more than 40 years. With over 125 years of British heritage, the company offers an ideal surfacing solution for contract projects.

Muraspec’s designs are CE- and fire-rated, and are environmentally certified. Muraspec is the exclusive UK distributor of Maya Romanoff Studio wallcoverings.
