Jonathan Clark Architects have just launched Uli, a new, contemporary Asian restaurant in London’s Notting Hill.
Formerly a grocer’s shop, the firm has created an impressive dining area, complete with a bar, private dining area and a large outdoor terrace.
The firm’s brief was to create an Asian restaurant without any of the typical elements of far eastern design. Instead, the fresh, light and healthy food was the central inspiration for the interior.
The standout design feature is an impressive lattice structurem made from limed wood. Not only used for shelving and display in the bar area, it also screens the unattractive courtyeard to the rear, and provides separation to the corridor and front seating area.
Coloured infill panels in shades of blue and deep brown add further to this sense of separation and, when combined with the distressed limed oak flooring and banquette, create an attractive and harmonious palette.
Elsewhere, three hanging garden lights have been installed over the dispense bar, filled with cascading indoor exotic plants to contribute to the organic feel of the space.
The spacious outdoor terrace is a valuable asset to the restaurant, providing plenty of space for al fresco dining.
