Ghent’s post office building – built between 1898 and 1910 – was designed by architect Louis Cloquet in collaboration with Stéphane Mortier for the 1913 World exhibition. Its eclectic neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance influences echo the striking façade of the Gildehuis der Vrije Schippers along the Graslei Canal.
The guest accommodation at 1898 The Post is warm in style, complete with high ceilings, dark green walls and antique furniture that complement the building’s late 19th century architecture. Natural, earthy colours throughout the interior design combine to create a sense of locality, while also emulating the relaxation of home.
“The Kitchen” is a cosy space with an open fireplace offering guests a delicious American buffet-style breakfast, a selection of fresh and seasonal light dishes for lunch and afternoon tea with home baked pastries.
Atmospheric cocktail bar “The Cobbler” boasts striking views across the spires of historic Ghent and an innovative and extensive drinks menu, plus various tapas-style dishes. A multi-functional room suited for both business and leisure gatherings is available for both guests and non-guests.
