Fields, a unique all-day café from the team behind M1LK in Balham, will open on Clapham Common this August.
Located five minutes’ walk from Clapham Common tube next to the skate park on Rookery Road SW4, the 30-cover café will also offer a heated terrace area to seat a further 80 people.
Fields is the brainchild of Julian Porter, who at the age of just 21 opened M1LK in Balham with his partner Lauren Heaphy. Three years on, Fields, M1LK’s ‘big sister’, will offer an all-day menu, specialty coffee and freshly baked cakes; served daily from 8am through to 10pm.
The café will also have its own roof garden and plant nursery where Julian will grow his own produce and micro herbs, to be used on the menu.
The interior at Fields will be simple, fluid and natural, designed personally by Julian and Lauren. Focus on craftsmanship will be evident throughout, with hand blown glass lights, bespoke Formica booth tables and a custom-made Kees Van Der Western espresso machine. The intimate space will be painted in muted tones and pastel colours, and Lauren will display her own ‘Like Lois’ collage art and that of local artists on the walls.
Local graffiti artists will also be invited to exhibit their work on the building exterior, and adding to the community feel at Fields will be a nursery garden where local children will be invited to grow vegetables.
Fields founder Julian commented ahead of the new opening, “We have always wanted to make the food we would want to eat ourselves on our days off. Food that’s exciting, thoughtful and technically driven, but ultimately delicious; served by people who are genuinely interested in what they do, in an affordable local space that our friends would feel comfortable in.
“That for us is what an all-day café should be. Clapham Common offers a beautiful location and Fields is the perfect place to make that happen. We are so excited to be able to share our new café with London next month when we open.”
