Baglioni Hotel Luna Venice reopens following extensive renovation

Dating back to the 12th century, Baglioni Hotel Luna Venice has reopened following an extensive property redesign. Introducing a new fine dining restaurant, Canova Restaurant by Sadler – headed by the famed Michelin Starred Chef, Claudio Sadler and Venetian-inspired spa designed by Spagnulo & Partners, the property’s public spaces – including the entrance, lobby, reception and Canova Bar – have been reimagined.

Residing in an elegant mansion just behind the Grand Canal, Baglioni Hotel Luna is steeped in history, reportedly housing the Knights Templar in 1118. By 1574, the property was already known as ‘Locanda della Luna’ and in the 18th century was decorated with frescoes by students of the renowned artist, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, who is recognised as one of the world’s greatest fresco painters. These magnificent works of art still adorn the ballroom’s ceilings today.

Taking inspiration from Venice’s eclectic history and cultural present, the hotel’s redesign – led by Spagnulo & Partners –  an Italian architect and interior-design studio founded by Federico Spagnulo –  celebrates diverse Venetian traditions and materials.

Complementing the existing modern furnishings, new marble inlaid flooring and grand chandeliers – in antique Murano glass – have been installed throughout the hotel entrance and Fireplace Lounge. Furthermore, Canova Bistrot, which overlooks the canal and the Royal Gardens, features handcrafted wooden tables and Rubelli designed armchairs.

The hotel has 91 rooms and suites, one fine dining restaurant, the Canova Bar, and a spa. The Baglioni charm continues in the hotel’s Marco Polo Ballroom, where breakfast is served each morning, decorated with decadent glass chandeliers that illuminate the historic frescoes. Another highlight is the famed San Giorgio Terrace Suite, with its own 100 sqm terrace and some of the best views in Venice overlooking St Mark’s and the San Giorgio Isle.

Launching in Q2 2022, the brand new Baglioni SPA will be located on the first floor, consisting of a Turkish bath – wet steam baths with 47 degree waters – massage rooms and a relaxation area. Inspired by the Venetian aesthetic, canals and bridges, interiors will be embellished with classic textile panels, bronze glass inlay and smoked-glass mosaics.
