Hilton recently announced plans to double its portfolio in Portugal with agreements to open three new hotels, representing a combined investment of around EUR 60 million. The additions of Hilton Porto Gaia, Legacy Hotel Cascais, Curio Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton Lagoa Azores mark a significant milestone for Hilton and underscore the company’s confidence in the Portuguese market.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President, Development, EMEA, Hilton, said: “With more than 24 million visitors last year, Portugal is perfectly positioned to capture pent-up consumer demand as international travel returns. The new hotels represent a significant investment and we are working closely with exceptional partners to bring new properties to some of Portugal’s fastest-growing tourism destinations, including Hilton’s first hotels in the Azores and Cascais.”

Hilton Porto Gaia

Following a franchise agreement with Sabersal – Promocão Turística e Imobiliária, S.A., Hilton Porto Gaia will become the second Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in Portugal, joining Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort and Spa. Located at Rua de Serpa Pinto 87, 4400-307 Vila Nova de Gaia, this 194-room property will be set amidst the area’s renowned and historic port wine cellars. Amenities include one restaurant, a lobby bar and a destination bar with panoramic views of Porto’s historic centre and the Douro River, as well as a 912sqm modern spa offering an indoor pool with dynamic water jets, sauna, Turkish bath, four treatment rooms and a gym, among other features. The hotel will also offer extensive event space, with a 356-seat auditorium and 1,688sqm of meeting space, including a 735sqm ballroom. Perfect either for business or leisure travellers, the hotel is expected to open in summer 2021.

Legacy Hotel Cascais, Curio Collection by Hilton

Joining a global portfolio of more than 90 one-of-a-kind hotels and resorts, Legacy Hotel Cascais, Curio Collection by Hilton will sit in the historic heart of Cascais. Guests will be surrounded by a wealth of attractions, with museums, shops and restaurants just minutes away. Most of the hotel’s 58 rooms will have balconies, offering stunning ocean and courtyard views. Guests will also have access to amenities including a lobby bar, two restaurants, swimming pool, spa and fitness centre. From its prime location on Avenida de 25 de Abril 528, just 28km from Lisbon with easy access to the city’s business parks, the hotel will appeal to both leisure and business travellers. Expected to open its doors in summer 2023, the property will operate under a franchise agreement between Hilton and Honest Talents Lda, a subsidiary of Reformosa. It will become the third Curio Collection hotel in Portugal following the opening of the Boeira Garden Hotel Porto Gaia in 2019 and The Emerald House Lisbon, due to open in 2021.

DoubleTree by Hilton Lagoa Azores

Hilton will make its debut in the stunning Azores islands with the DoubleTree by Hilton Lagoa Azores, expected to open in early 2022. Guests can indulge in Sao Miguel island’s spectacular scenery and wildlife, with many picturesque beaches and golf courses located within 45 minutes of the hotel at Avenida da Inovaçao, Lte 26, 9560 Lagoa. Amenities in this 101-bedroom, new build property include an all-day dining restaurant, lobby bar, outdoor pool and poolside bar, as well as a spa and fitness facilities. Guests visiting the nearby business park will also benefit from the hotel’s 210sqm of event space, including four meeting rooms. The hotel will be operated under a management agreement between Hilton and Let’s Sea Azores, S.A. and will be the second DoubleTree property in Portugal, joining DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Lisbon – Fontana Park.

Hilton is growing faster than ever on the Iberian Peninsula, which remains a strategic focus. In Portugal, Hilton has four trading hotels including Conrad Algarve, with a further eight hotels in the pipeline. In Spain, where Hilton has 14 trading hotels, the company continues to introduce new brands, including Spain’s first Conrad Hotels & Resorts property, to be located on the Costa del Sol, and its first Tapestry Collection and Canopy by Hilton properties, expected to open in Madrid in 2021.
