Hotel Moraine – where the land meets the sea

Hotel Moraine is the North Fork of Long Island’s premiere seaside destination for families. The resort embodies the rich farmland and coastal seascape of the North Fork and harkens back to a bygone era; one where adults and kids alike can seek fresh air, adventure, relaxation, and make new memories.

Aptly named, Hotel Moraine is perched high above the Long Island Sound on a bluff forming part of the Harbor Hill Moraine, Long Island’s backbone, created long ago by receding glaciers. Inspired by nature and the primitive, rocky coastline, the hotel provides signature North Fork touches to make you feel at home while offering local experiences and exceptional service.

Boasting 20 thoughtfully-designed guestrooms, a lobby bar, a sundries shop, a saltwater gunite swimming pool, poolside dining, a communal cottage with game room and outdoor bar, 200 feet of beachfront, and loads of amenities, Hotel Moraine encourages reconnection.

The resort

Entering the property is akin to entering a private estate – once past the lush greenery and native plantings that provide privacy and intimacy, a resort on over three acres gives way to rolling lawns that unfold into the Sound. The property features newly-constructed buildings with patina-ed cedar siding and black metal roofs, reminiscent of the barns and farmhouses found across the destination, and the sea can be seen from every angle of the property.

The lobby is a dramatic, barn-like structure with glass walls and warm, natural tones and textures. The reception area, sundries shop and lobby bar offer conveniences to guests including fresh squeezed juices, coffee drinks, grab-and-go items, pastries and alcoholic beverages. With multiple seating areas surrounding a grand fireplace, it’s the ideal spot to start or end your day.

Soaring windows lead guests outside the lobby to relax under a heated, covered patio featuring two, large gas fire pits that overlook the brand-new heated saltwater, gunite swimming pool with unfettered views of the Long Island Sound. Guests can spend the day at the pool and enjoy an adult- and kid-friendly menu including salads, lobster rolls and, of course, an ice-cold bottle of rose from Croteaux Vineyards.

Activities

Take a break from the pool and head to the hotel’s fitness centre, throw some bocce on the lawn, use one of the complimentary bikes and explore the area, or hit the beach and stand-up paddleboard.

At the end of the day, grab sundowners on the deck of the cottage while you enjoy the most incredible sunset. In addition to sunsets, the cottage offers seasonal kids activities and workshops, like how to build a birdhouse or tie dye a shirt, as well as movies on the lawn and game nights. Half way down to the beach, on the bluff, you will find fire pits and Adirondack chairs – built for taking in the view or enjoying some s’mores.

The Guestrooms

Stylish and well-appointed rooms offer luxury and comfort for the entire family. The Terrace King rooms offer private terraces while the Premium King rooms feature fireplaces. Traveling families will enjoy the adjoining rooms or Double Queen rooms that provide enough space for everyone. All rooms feature water views and a designated workspace.

The 20 guest rooms offer resort-style living with personal touches and luxury amenities that offer a light and airy feel, blending a neutral colour palette with natural coastal elements including white oak beams, reclaimed wood flooring, custom-built cabinetry and hand-sewn rugs. Spa-like bathrooms feature a soaking tub or large, walk-in shower, plus plush robes, bath linens and amenities by Anatome. Mini-bars offer a curated selection of snacks and beverages for sale from nearby partners, including North Fork Potato Chips and beers from Greenpoint Harbor Brewing.

Local Offerings

Proximate to the bustling Village of Greenport, a historic coastal village filled with vintage boutiques, antique shops, ice cream parlours and a thriving dining and bar scene, Hotel Moraine is located in the heart of Long Island’s North Fork. Known for its rich farmland, award-winning vineyards and quaint beaches, the North Fork is a sweet reprieve from urban life just 100 miles from New York City by ferry, car, train or bus. Guests are encouraged to shop, sip and slurp (oysters) their way through the North Fork’s historic towns and hamlets, including Orient, Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue and Mattituck. Guests also have access to the hotel’s house car for local drop-offs and pick-ups

Ownership and Management Team

On the heels of successfully developing and operating The Menhaden Hotel, the husband and wife team behind Swallowtail Management has transformed the former Sunset Motel into Hotel Moraine – a luxury, family resort. They are also behind local Croteaux Vineyards, the country’s only all-Rosé farm, vineyard and winery.
