James Lock to host lunch at The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton

Award-winning prisoner rehabilitation scheme The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton in London has partnered with owner of Lockie’s Kitchen and The Only Way Is Essex star James Lock for a not-to-be-missed ‘Lunch with Lockie’ on Wednesday 22 March at 12.30pm.

Raising vital funds to support the build of the next Clink training project, The Clink Charity is inviting foodies to its London restaurant, currently #9 of 17,835 restaurants in London listed on TripAdvisor, to enjoy some of the delicious dishes on the menu at Lockie’s Kitchen.

The menu will be created exclusively for the event and served by prisoners working and training in the restaurant with support from James and his team. Work alongside likeminded individuals and businesses enables The Clink to provide the trainee chefs and waiters with additional opportunities to learn, outside of the City & Guilds NVQ curriculum they are currently studying.

The vision of Lockie’s Kitchen is to produce deliciously balanced food with the health conscious in mind, a contrast against the numerous unhealthy food outlets currently on the high street. Its menu is designed using locally sourced ingredients which is reflected in the menu’s seasonal freshness and flavour.

The light lunch will begin with a non-alcoholic welcome drink before diners delve into fresh soup with crusty bread or grilled king prawns with avocado, chilli, coriander and lemon juice to start. The main course offers a choice of pasta with rustic tomato sauce or juicy grilled butterfly chicken breast with sweet potato mash and corn on the cob. Lunch will finish with scrumptious strawberry protein pancakes, fresh seasonal fruit, Greek yoghurt and maple syrup. Although simple in style, each dish is focused on letting the fresh ingredients speak for themselves.

“I’m delighted to be working with The Clink Charity on creating the ‘Lunch with Lockie’ event at The Clink Restaurant, HMP Brixton,” says James Lock, owner of Lockie’s Kitchen. “The work the team at the charity do is nothing short of incredible and inspiring. It’s an issue close to my heart and the men and women working with The Clink Charity all deserve a second chance at life.”

Chris Moore, chief executive of The Clink Charity, adds: “We are delighted to have James Lock and his team from Lockie’s Kitchen involved with the charity and working with the prisoners in training at HMP Brixton. James has generously donated all the ingredients for the lunch meaning every penny raised will go straight to The Clink Charity.

“As a social enterprise striving to reduce reoffending rates, it’s important to us that we work with other socially conscious people and organisations so we can work together to improve the lives of those in need of help and support. It costs us £1,500 a year to mentor and support a Clink Graduate once they are released from prison and events like this are crucial in helping us to break the cycle of crime and give more prisoners a second chance in life.”

Tickets are priced at just £15 per person for three courses and a welcome drink. The event will continue to serve the charity’s ongoing commitment to reducing reoffending through dedicated hospitality training for those wanting to transform their lives and gain meaningful employment on release.

Guests are asked to arrive at 11.45am to allow enough time to pass through security, due to the restaurant’s location within the walls of the Victorian prison.
