More Progress in the UK as IHG signs two further hotels in Manchester

InterContinental Hotels Group, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has announced the signing of two further hotels for Manchester, continuing the growth of its UK estate.

The Crowne Plaza Manchester and Staybridge Suites Manchester are being built as part of The University of Manchester’s £1 billion campus development.

The 210-room Crowne Plaza hotel and the 116-room Staybridge Suites property will both operate under a franchise agreement with existing owner partner M&L Hospitality, and will be managed by Cycas Hospitality. The properties are both due to open towards the end of 2016.

M&L Hospitality is taking a 125-year lease on land owned by The University of Manchester for the 326-key new-build hotel complex. The two hotels are part of Bruntwood’s wider redevelopment of Manchester Business School (MBS) and will adjoin its new two-storey Executive Education Centre, which will provide a new home for the business school’s corporate leadership and management programmes.

Located within close proximity to Manchester city centre, visitors to MBS and the University, along with long-stay corporate business clients, will be the hotels’ major demand drivers.

“We’re delighted to be developing more hotels with M&L Hospitality,” says Philip Lassman, director of development for the UK & Ireland, IHG. “Manchester is a key city for us and it’s great to see an appetite for our extended stay brand Staybridge Suites here. Crowne Plaza Manchester – Oxford Road will be our third Crowne Plaza hotel in Manchester; and the brand – with its renowned meeting facilities and focus on supporting people who travel for success – is really gaining momentum across the UK.”

Staybridge Suites hotels feature hallmarks designed to make guests feel comfortable and at home, and offer two suite types (studio and one-bedroom) with fully equipped kitchens, a highly functional work area separate from living areas, complimentary wireless anywhere, a complimentary daily hot breakfast, an evening social reception three days a week, a 24-hour business centre, fitness room and laundry room, all of which are complimentary for guests and a 24/7 convenience store. There are five Staybridge Suites hotels in the UK.

Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts has been a recognised and reputable meetings hotel brand for the last 30 years offering guests relevant and effective solutions through its signature meetings programme. It is one of the fastest growing hotel brands in the world, at nearly 400 hotels in more than 60 countries worldwide, with amenities and services designed to help guests be on top of their work and at the top of their game.
