Thailand-based ONYX Hospitality Group has now signed management agreements for two new projects under select-service brand, OZO, and serviced apartment brand, Shama, in Iskandar, Malaysia.

The two new developments, OZO Medini and Shama Medini, will be part of the multi-purpose UMCity Medini Lakeside complex from leading lifestyle developer United Malayan Land Bhd (UMLand).

Scheduled to open in 2018, OZO Medini will feature 198 guest rooms alongside all the other facilities for which the select-service brand is known for, including, ‘EAT’, ‘EAT2Go’, a swimming pool and fitness centre.

Offering the epitome of style, comfort and luxury, Shama Medini will comprise of 232 serviced apartments complete with spacious living areas, ideal for business travellers and families looking for space and comfort. The property will also feature a restaurant, a kids club, a fitness centre, and a rooftop garden with an outdoor barbeque.

“We are thrilled to continue the expansion of our brands in Malaysia,” says President and CEO of ONYX Hospitality Group, Peter Henley. “As a Thai company, having a presence in one of our closest neighbouring countries has always been priority for us. We have great confidence in our partner, UMLand as these two new projects bring the total of shared projects to three, following the signing of Amari Johor Bahru in 2013.

“The latest projects are particularly significant for us, as upon completion, they will mark the first time all three of our core brands, Amari, OZO and Shama will be present in one region anywhere in the world.”

CEO of UMLand Group, Datuk Charlie Chia Lui Meng, adds: “The UMCity Medini Lakeside will redefine metropolitan living. UMcity is the first phase of UMLand’s Medini Lakeside master plan, situated at the Medini Iskandar gateway, and strategically positioned to be the ideal enclave for business and leisure. Designed for vibrant community living, we are excited that internationally recognised brands such as OZO and Shama will contribute to making this concept become a reality.”
