Specialist hotel and resort design specialist, ReardonSmith Architects, has announced the formation of a dedicated landscape design team under the leadership of Ed Freeman. Ed joins ReardonSmith as director of landscape with over 14 years’ experience behind him as a landscape architect and urban designer.
Patrick Reardon, executive chairman at ReardonSmith, says: “Increasingly in our resort masterplanning work, we were being asked by clients to define the principles of the landscape design as part of our initial concept, so it seemed sensible to us to bring a talented and experienced individual into the company so that we could enhance and expand our client service.
“Over the years, we have worked with Ed on several projects and know that we share, what to us is, an all-important commitment to respecting the environment. We believe that, particularly in rural and resort locations, our buildings should be woven into their environment, not imposed on them.”
Most recently, Ed worked with Capita Lovejoy on a portfolio of luxury hotel and resort projects, both in the UK and overseas. He collaborated with ReardonSmith on the early phases of Porto Montenegro and, most recently, on The Regent Porto Montenegro Hotel & Residences, which is scheduled to open in summer next year. Ed also worked with ReardonSmith on the Four Seasons Hotel Baku, for which he designed the private gardens and public piazza.
Ed says: “This is a very exciting moment for all of us. We think this new proposition at ReardonSmith will prove very compelling for clients. They will benefit from a team with both unparalleled hotel architecture experience and landscape design expertise, coming together in a seamless process to completely integrate building and landscape design from the very earliest conceptual stage.”
