Situated in the emblematic Plaza de Gipuzkoa in the heart of Donostia-San Sebastián, Room Mate Gorka features 33 guest rooms, a gym, breakfast room, meeting and bar.
Design continues to be one of the underlying foundations of the hotel chain, as well as the concept of visiting friends whilst travelling that underpins each property’s identity. In this case, Madrid-based interior design firm, Cuarto Interior, has portrayed ‘Gorka’ as an extroverted, creative individual with a passion for travelling.
“We loved designing the new Room Mate Gorka because from the very beginning Kike Sarasola had a very clear idea of the hotel that he wanted for his guests,” explains Germán Álvarez and José Manuel Fernández, the project designers. “Kike gave us complete freedom to create the interior concept of the hotel. It was an absolute pleasure working for Room Mate Hotels.”
The property features a thoughtful, elegant, fresh, harmonious decoration with a classic touch. The details that make reference to the La Concha beach front promenade are a clear example of this, as are the glass panes that separate the reception and the bar.

Thanks to a careful use of transparent elements, some spaces are able to intertwine with each other. Moreover, this twist on the classic gives way to a modern, fresh elegance that has contemporary purposes whilst being reminiscent of timeless classics both in terms of the furnishings and the finishes and decorations.
“I am particularly happy with this opening – San Sebastián is one of my favourite cities in the world and Room Mate Hotels couldn’t not be here,” comments Kike Sarasola, President and Founder of the Room Mate Group.
