Sebastian Conran of Conran Associates is to give the Materials and Design Exchange (MaDE) annual lecture 2014, on the 25th March at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in central London.
As part of this free event from the Materials Knowledge Transfer Network, the lecture will encompass old and new materials and manufacturing technologies, design philosophy, the art of business, and new challenges for designers, all in the context of a swift journey through Conran’s prolific work and key historic design projects.
Throughout Sebastian’s career – whether stacking shelves at Habitat in his teenage years or running Studio Conran – Sebastian’s life has been focused on understanding how things are made, sold and used, as well as designing innovative, stylish and satisfying products.
His design philosophy could be said to encompass three strands, ‘form follows finish’, ‘form follows fabrication’ and ‘form follow freight’.
Please join MaDE on 25 March for inspiration, lively discussion, and an enjoyable evening with peers from the design and materials communities. Following Sebastian Conran’s lecture and question and answer session, there will be a drinks reception at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. There is no charge to attend this event, but registration is necessary.
