Due to open in late 2025, The Shepherd Mayfair is set to make a striking debut in London’s most prestigious neighbourhood. The 82-key hotel will reinterpret the traditions of British luxury for the modern traveller, blending layered history with contemporary design flair.
The project is led by Shepherd&, the studio founded by Timothy Shepherd, formerly Managing Director at Buckley Gray Yeoman ID. Continuing long-standing relationships with Bain Capital and Orka Investments, Shepherd& has brought together architecture, interiors, visual arts and brand identity into a cohesive guest experience.
“We created and continually developed the narrative of The Shepherd Mayfair, with attention paid to a carefully combined architectural and design approach,” says Timothy Shepherd. “We have taken this thought process into specific areas, from the guest experience, culinary offering, to the cocktail bar.”
The hotel’s site borders Park Lane and the historic Shepherd Market, an 18th-century enclave often described as a Mayfair ‘hidden gem’. While the original building dates back to the 1970s, the new design pays homage to the area’s cultural fabric while evolving it for today’s guests.
Guests will arrive through a covered walkway on Stanhope Row, immediately encountering an aesthetic that fuses elegance, history, and a strong British design tradition. Shepherd& has curated every material, texture and detail – from reimagined banker’s lamps and chess tables to silver trays -she to layer the interiors with personality and refinement.
Shared spaces adopt deep, warm tones, while guestrooms transition into cooler, more tranquil palettes. Artwork and decorative elements are integral to the storytelling, with contributions from Jack English, John Broadley, and George McLeod adding wit and depth to the interiors.
The Shepherd Mayfair will also become a hub for dining and nightlife. ‘Teddy’s’, a cocktail bar tucked beneath the hotel, is designed for late-night intimacy. With Liberty archive fabrics and curated photography, it will offer an elegant but playful take on Mayfair’s after-hours culture.
On the ground floor, ‘Fayre’ introduces a brasserie centred on seasonally inspired dishes, complemented by distinctive wallcoverings from Adam Ellis Studio. Meanwhile, a welcoming lobby café-bar combines lounge-like comfort with flexible spaces for working or conversation, anchored once more by a curated art programme.
The project also encompasses 36–37 Hertford Street, two restored Georgian townhouses reimagined as luxury residences. Designed in collaboration with Buckley Gray Yeoman and Shepherd&, and building on initial concepts by Albion Nord, the apartments offer one to three bedrooms and a refined balance of privacy and connection to the hotel. Residents will enjoy privileged access to bespoke services provided by The Shepherd Mayfair.
Shepherd& approached the hotel as an atelier, drawing on a network of artisans, collaborators and creatives. Among them are Apparatus, whose sculptural lighting brings drama and refinement, and photographer Jack English, whose archive adds a cinematic quality to the interiors. George McLeod’s award-winning portrait series, reinterpreting classical forms, adds further depth to the guest experience.
The result is a hotel that balances personal narrative with cultural insight, creating a hospitality environment that feels both elevated and intimate. As Timothy Shepherd reflects, the aim has always been to craft something timeless: a hotel rooted in Mayfair’s heritage, yet unafraid to shape its future.
