Spa Laminates completes £1m investment programme

Veneer specialist, Spa Laminates, has completed a £1m programme of investment at its site in Leeds, culminating in a new automated pressing line and purpose-built polishing facility.

Spa Laminates supplies veneered sheets, panels and components to some of the UK’s most prominent architects, interior designers and furniture designers. The family-owned company employs 40 people, and has continued to recruit new staff throughout this year to meet the demand for its bespoke products and services.

Spa Laminates’ new energy-efficient pressing line has been tailored in order to produce veneered sheets in a wide range of core thicknesses, from 4mm to 75mm. It can be used with a variety of glues, including a newly-developed, Formaldehyde-free glue, which offers significant environmental and operational benefits.

The new pressing line joins a purpose-built polishing facility, which – having been completed at the end of last year – has boosted Spa Laminates’ capacity to supply component parts and finished items. This includes a high-end burnishing facility ideal for super-yachts and high-end developments, offering customers a more efficient service and a high level of quality control.

The new additions to the production process have been crucial in achieving the quality product and service recognised by a Best New Supplier award from luxury yacht manufacturer, Sunseeker International.

The award from Sunseeker – which was presented at its annual Supplier of the Year Awards at the International Boat Show last month – recognises Spa’s high level of performance as a supplier since starting work with the yacht specialist two years ago.

Spa Laminates MD, Daryn Forster, says: “We’re delighted to have been recognised for our work by Sunseeker. Our aim is to offer all clients the high-quality veneered sheets and products Spa Laminates is known for, with maximum efficiency, but above all to provide great value for money to make everyone’s budgets go further.

“We’ve invested heavily in the infrastructure and team we need to be able to do this while building on our unrivalled veneer experience, and it’s really exciting to know that these decisions are delivering the client experience we hope to achieve.”
