Studio Frantzén opens at Atlantis The Palm

Studio Frantzén – Social Dining & Bar, the first of two Middle Eastern ventures from Michelin-starred chef Björn Frantzén, has opened its doors at the iconic Atlantis The Palm.

This visionary space represents a fusion of gastronomic artistry and immersive design. Leading the design process is Paul Bishop, founder of the multi-award-winning, internationally renowned agency Bishop Design.

Studio Frantzén marks Chef Björn Frantzén’s debut in the Middle East, bringing his distinctive Nordic-Asian vision to Dubai. Spanning 4,300 square feet, Studio Frantzén offers guests an immersive dining experience across a captivating main dining room, a stylish bar, a dedicated candy room, and an exclusive private dining area. Each space is distinct yet connected by a cohesive narrative. Bishop Design’s approach to Studio Frantzén draws from the mystique of Nordic landscapes, blending natural textures with luxurious details to create an environment that feels rooted in both Dubai’s vibrancy and Scandinavian heritage, while merging the essence of a casual, à la carte eatery with an immersive ambiance.

A Meeting of Minds and Visions

Frantzén and Bishop are innovators in their fields, with a shared commitment to pushing boundaries and creating experiences that transcend the ordinary. With Frantzén’s legacy—rooted in some of Europe’s most prestigious kitchens—and Bishop’s daring design ethos that has transformed spaces around the globe, the partnership at Studio Frantzén represents a true synergy of vision and craft.

For Frantzén, this Middle Eastern debut is a significant milestone: an expression of Nordic spirit in Dubai’s evolving dining landscape. His philosophy is one of discovery, flavor, and storytelling, which has drawn a global following. “Working with Paul on this project has been transformative,” says Frantzén. “His ability to take our vision for the guest experience and express it through the visual language of design has created a setting that feels deeply connected to our brand yet fresh and exciting.”

For Bishop, Frantzén’s approach resonated on a deeply creative level. “Björn’s focus on authenticity and connection is something we share,” Bishop explains. “Every decision we made in Studio Frantzén was about reinforcing a narrative that felt genuine and reflective of his journey. We wanted to create a space that speaks as profoundly as the menu.”

A Vision of Nordic Enchantment Brought to Life

Reflecting Nordic landscapes shaped by nature and folklore, Studio Frantzén’s design features a curated palette. Copper accents, reminiscent of mining heritage, blend seamlessly with terrazzo-tiled flooring that morphs into carpet, a nod to the moss underfoot when journeying through woodlands. A candlelight chandelier, which dominates the main dining area, pays homage to the limited sunlight in Scandinavia, where candlelight is a soulful element of daily life. This ambiance celebrates the Nordic reverence for light, with subtle textures and handcrafted elements bringing a bespoke quality to the space, enhancing its charm and allure.

A striking, larger-than-life bear sculpture at the entrance welcomes guests—a playful nod to Chef Björn Frantzén himself, as “Björn” translates to “bear” in English. This emblematic feature sets a whimsical tone, blending humour with sophistication, and invites guests into a space where every detail is thoughtfully curated to reflect the chef’s unique identity and approach.

Each space within Studio Frantzén flows into the next, creating an inviting journey. The restaurant’s bar and dining area open into intimate zones with layered textures and immersive art, paying homage to Scandinavian traditions through a modern lens. Nordic-inspired elements, like wooden screens and whimsical accessories, are reimagined with bold, contemporary interpretations, giving Studio Frantzén a dynamic character.

“Studio Frantzén is a narrative woven through time and space, showcasing the beauty of human connection and the artistry of flavor,” notes Bishop. “The design embraces both tradition and innovation, creating a space that is as much about the experience as it is about the food. It is a hybrid approach, where Scandinavian minimalism collides with the vibrant tapestry of Dubai.”

With key partners like Al Tayer Stocks (contractor), Turner & Townsend (project manager), Studio N (lighting), and Vision Furniture Factory (furniture supplier), Bishop Design was able to bring their design vision to life. Ian Milford, CEO of Al Tayer Stocks, said: “We are incredibly privileged to have played a key role in bringing this restaurant to life. Our team worked diligently to ensure every design detail reflected the unique vision of both the designers and owners while upholding the highest standards. This space will be an innovative dining experience and a vibrant new addition to Atlantis The Palm.”
