The Charles Hotel, Munich, unveils redesigned suites

The Charles Hotel, a Rocco Forte hotel in Munich, has unveilled the redesign of 61 rooms and suites, following months of meticulous renovation.

Olga Polizzi, Co-Founder of Rocco Forte Hotels and Director of Design for the group, spearheaded the transformation, bringing a fresh, vibrant look to the rooms that incorporate the shapes and colours of the surrounding Old Botanical Gardens, a centrepiece of the city of Munich.

The new design features delicately striped pastel wallpaper to bring a sense of lightness to the rooms, while strategically placed bright accents in yellow and turquoise add an inviting radiance. Inspired by the verdant colours of the trees, foliage, and flowers in the Old Botanical Gardens, a colour palette of moss green and warm orange for the curtains, cushions, and covers has been thoughtfully chosen to reflect the hotel’s location. With large windows overlooking the Gardens and beyond, the atmosphere of the rooms and suites is one of calmness and comfort.

The design prioritises high-quality materials and sustainability throughout. Selected not only for their durability but also for their eco-friendly origins, all upholstered furniture has been sourced from Germany and fabrics from within Europe.  In addition to an appealing design, equal emphasis was placed on comfort and functionality when remodelling the rooms.

Lady Olga said: “The appearance of a hotel room is, of course, very important, but just as important, if not more so, is the comfort of the room. A comfortable bed, a good chair, easy-to-use lighting, a spacious wardrobe, a strategically placed television and desk, space for room service, and plenty of room in the bathroom for washstand for a cosmetics bag… It’s amazing how rarely you find these requirements met.”

Following this philosophy, the rooms have been equipped with newly upholstered headboards featuring flexible reading lights, enlarged desks with space for larger televisions, and new bookshelves in the junior suites to create a cosy atmosphere.

Olga Polizzi further explained the need for continuous updates in design: “Interior design is like fashion—it changes gently and then gains momentum dramatically, influencing culture as a whole. A designer’s work is never truly finished. Design can be timeless and still inspire and surprise guests with thoughtful developments and embellishments.”
