InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has now launched its boutique Hotel Indigo hotel in Scandinavia with the opening of Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard.
Operating under a franchise agreement with Restel Limited, the 120 room hotel is situated on Bulevardi, one of the city’s most elegant, historic and diverse streets, connecting two contrasting worlds of design.
To the east of the hotel, guests will find themselves immersed in the heart of the design district, Esplanadi – a community of galleries, Finnish designers such as Marimekko and Vuokko, and jewellery makers.
To the west lies the Baltic Sea and the Hietalahti Shipyard, the core area for industrial design which has been responsible for developing the design of icebreaker ships for the last 150 years. The hotel is very well connected with tram six, one of the oldest electrified tram networks in the world built in 1900, located just outside the hotel and the airport and just a 30 minute drive away.
All guestrooms at Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard have a complimentary minibar, Nespresso coffee machine maker and WiFi included in the room rate. What’s more, there is a 24/7 Body, Soul & Mind studio with gym, yoga room and Finnish Sauna & Steam Bath. For those travelling on business, the hotel offers a boardroom and 24/7 Business Corner.
As IHG’s boutique brand, every Hotel Indigo property is designed to reflect the local neighbourhood. From the hotel’s design and artwork, to the locally inspired menus, every Hotel Indigo is unique to its surroundings and so no two hotels are the same. Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard truly reflects the fabric of this design orientated neighbourhood right down to the murals on the walls – two of which were created by young Finnish graphic designers, Linda Linko and Pietari Posti.
The hotel will play host to two dining offers; Bröd, an 80-seater restaurant serving a selection of Finnish specialities, and Soup & Juice, a deli that will sit just inside the hotel providing a place for guests and locals to enjoy a fresh salad, sandwich or soup. Soup & Juice is the perfect example of Hotel Indigo’s new food and beverage philosophy that aims to create a local landmark by bringing the best food and drink artisans from the community into the hotels.
Mikaela Pomren, General Manager, Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard said: “Hotel Indigo Helsinki-Boulevard truly reflects the duality of Helsinki’s architecture and design and is ideally located for guests to head out to explore the neighbourhood. We look forward to welcoming guests to our hotel and restaurants, and to showing them what Helsinki and Bulevardi have to offer.”
Tom Rowntree, IHG’s Vice President for Hotel Indigo, Europe said: “We’re enormously proud to be opening our first Hotel Indigo in Scandinavia. The hotel reflects this dynamic neighbourhood in Helsinki, showcasing both old and new influences of the design history. It’s a great representation of everything the Hotel Indigo brand has to offer.”
