Article 25 is delighted to announce that this year’s prestigious 10×10 Auction will be hosted by The Shard on the evening of the 27th of November 2014.

The panoramic views from London’s iconic Shard will provide a spectacular backdrop to the display of 100 works of art created by some of the UK’s leading architects, designers and artists.

10×10 Drawing The City London is Article 25’s flagship fundraising event, raising vital funds to support the charity’s work. The event takes its name from the grid of 100 squares laid over an area of London, which this year has The Shard at its centre. Each participant is allocated a square and donates an artwork inspired by the buildings and public space within their square.

Past participants have included Lord Foster, Lord Rogers, Dame Zaha Hadid, Paul Smith, Jake & Dinos Chapman and many more. The artists for this year’s event will be revealed within the coming weeks.

Last year the 10×10 Auction raised £90,000 which was used to design and build best practice Street Children’s Centres across Africa. All funds raised from this year’s auction will go towards Article 25’s essential healthcare projects to improve the standard of health in the developing world.

The 10×10 Drawing Weekend took place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of August. Jack Pringle, Chair of the Trustees of Article 25 welcomed participants at a reception on Level 22 of The Shard before they went out into their squares to start their works of art.

Irvine Sellar, developer and joint owner of The Shard, said: “We are delighted to be partnering Article 25 and, as a result, supporting such an important cause through this truly creative event. With The Shard widely acclaimed as a triumph of design, it is appropriate that an event celebrating great art and architecture is hosted here.

“Our commitment to taking an active role in supporting the community in Southwark, and beyond, makes it fitting to partner an initiative rooted in the local neighbourhood. There is so much going on in the area around The Shard and Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights shows that adequate, dignified buildings and housing are fundamental to our human rights Registered Charity Number 1112621
London Bridge Quarter, the artists and architects will have tremendous scope to create some highly covetable pieces for the auction in November.”

Robin Cross, Managing Director of Article 25, said: “Article 25 is preparing for its biggest event to date with this year’s 10×10, working with our partner The Shard and our sponsors to raise record funds and showcase the best of British artistic and architectural talent. We rely on the support of our partners to provide buildings to guarantee basic human rights for the most vulnerable communities in the world.”

10×10 Drawing The City London 2014 is being supported by partners The Shard and ING Media and with the further support of RISE, Art Installation Services, M8 Recruitment, Shaylor Group and The Campaign for Drawing.
