Yeotown opens new luxury eco cottage

Award-winning UK health retreat, Yeotown, has announced that it has added a new luxury eco cottage at its base in the dramatic landscape of the North Devon coast.

Having gained success after success since their launch in 2010 with their tried and tested five-day detox and lifestyle programme the Yeotox, Yeotown is expanding to meet growing demand.

As with the eco-suites launched earlier this summer the design brief for the Love and Be Loved Cottage was to use renewable natural resources.

With 15 years’ experience running his own much heralded interior design, art and antique furniture business, co-founder Simon Sieff has been inspired by his travels with his wife and fellow co-founder Mercedes in the design of the suites.

Situated in the picturesque grounds of Yeotown, the name of the cottage ‘Love and Be Loved’ comes from one of the 24 core character strengths in Positive Psychology, which Mercedes has studied in detail.

peaking about the name she says “Having a strong capacity to love others and allow them to love us back has been shown to be a huge component in authentic happiness. Studies have also shown it appears to be a common strength used among the happiest people.

Employing this strength on a regular basis can help to alleviate the stress, tension and judgment of a negative situation by letting our natural state of giving and receiving love guide our actions and reactions. It only seems fitting to name our largest accommodation with this grand character strength.”

Spanning 1400 square foot the ‘Love and Be Loved’ cottage has a large bedroom with a super king sized bed. The bathroom is tiled with polished white stone from floor to ceiling with a separate luxuriant stone bath and power shower.

The central feature of the cottage is the large double sided fireplace, which leads into the sitting room complete with swaying meditation pod. Created from volcanic ash and suspended by a large rope made of hemp, the suite comes with pre-loaded guided meditations, inspirational talks, audio books and lectures that guests can listen to at their leisure on the surround sound Bose speaker system.

In addition to the pod there is also a rich brown leather ‘contemplation couch’ where again guests can relax while listening to the audio selections overlooking the newly planted orchard filled with apple, pear and cheery trees right outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.

In the master bedroom, the walls have been clad with reclaimed dark Kentucky oak and above the bed sits a 300 year old antique hand carved stone Buddha that Simon and Mercedes sourced in Indonesia last year.

Passionate about collecting antiques and unique pieces during their travels, some of the furniture and art has taken the couple over three years to source and speak to the various places around the globe that inspire them.

Filled with natural light due to the numerous skylights throughout the cottage, each room need very little electricity during the day in fitting with its eco-friendly credentials.

With the environment at the centre of everything at Yeotown, the cottage is an entirely carbon neutral build, with insulation created using locally sourced straw and hemp.

The antique and re-used materials in all the rooms give the cottage a rustic and warm feel while addressing the idea of wasting less.
