Salt + Pickle opens in Crystal Palace

Specialising in preserving techniques, big flavours, local, seasonal ingredients where possible, and shining a light on small winemakers and craft breweries, Salt + Pickle comprises 30 covers with bar seating for a further ten.

Salt + Pickle’s menu combines local suppliers’ produce with time-honoured preserving techniques for a unique twist on café dining. The daily lunch menu is classic New York-inspired sandwiches (salt beef + mustard; gruyere + pickle) and seasonal salads all at the £7 mark whilst those working locally or in a rush can enjoy any of the lunch dishes take-out for just £5.

The evening menu is light and balanced with small plates including gin + beetroot cured salmon; pickled mushroom bruschetta + wild garlic aioli; and courgette carpaccio with chilli + ricotta. A dedicated Cheese + Charcuterie section is perfectly side-lined with a bottle of wine or a glass of Italian sparkles featuring combinations of farmhouse cheeses, hand-carved charcuterie including 36 month-aged Bellota pata negra, fresh bread and various artisan chutneys.

For bar dining, emerald-hued metal stools offer a full view of plating, slicing, pouring and the ideal spot for chatting with the team, sampling and swapping suggestions.

Sunday evenings are a special end to each week’s service and all about great food and giving back to a wonderful cause. Salt + Pickle will create a menu and magic up dishes from the selection of what’s leftover, customers who dine will then pay they feel it’s worth with all profits going to the team’s nominated charity, Springboard UK, which helps young people achieve their potential in the hospitality industry.

Ian Haigh has designed Salt + Pickle’s minimalist interior, with the idea of ‘minimal intervention’ in mind, marrying natural and industrial, creating a dynamic space with an informal and welcoming, neighbourhood feel.

To complement this light touch in design, pops of bold geometric shape and colour subtly offset fresh greenery and classic details like bentwood beech dining chairs and low hanging lighting whilst the central copper-topped bar is space’s main focal point.

Set on the corner where Westow Hill and Jasper Road meet in the Crystal Triangle, Crystal Palace’s bustling, commercial heart, Salt + Pickle sits steps from leafy and lush Crystal Palace Park with its incredible views of London, and is equidistant between Crystal Palace and Gispy Hill stations.
