Six Senses announces expansion of its portfolio with series of new openings

Six Senses is to expand its portfolio with new openings in Lisbon, Kyoto and the Southern Dunes, Saudi Arabia.

Six Senses Lisbon – 2025

Six Senses Lisbon, the group’s second property in Portugal, is due to open in 2025. Set within the beautifully converted Palácio Lavra and Palácio das Pedrosas, this urban hideway will boast 114 rooms, artfully blending the classic features of the heritage property with the signature Six Senses contemporary look and feel. Exposed period architecture, classic Portuguese furniture, warm earthy tones and luxe fabrics combine for a sophisticated, breezy flow throughout.

The suites will be home to private kitchens and al fresco terraces. Downstairs, the soaring ceilings, dramatic candelabra, striking sculptural features, abundant greenery and lush artisanal palette epitomise the friendly elegance of the space. The rooftop terrace has spectacular, panoramic views across the city and the private central garden will feature a vine-covered glass atrium with cosy corners aplenty.

As with all properties within the portfolio, the restaurant will be guided by the Eat With Six Senses philosophy, where flavours are fresh and ingredients are seasonal and local. The hotel will also feature an organic restaurant in the courtyard, a lively lounge bar, relaxed greenhouse bar and an all-day coffee bar.

The 1,000 square-meter Six Senses Spa blends signature therapies and wellness programmes for guests and locals alike. With eight treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, dance studio, yoga pavilion and juice bar, the spa will be one of the finest in the city.

Six Senses Kyoto – 2024

Six Senses Kyoto, the group’s first foray in Japan, is set across from the Myoho-in temple, nestled among meandering paths through tranquil gardens.

The elegant design contrasts simple lines with earthy organic tones, maximising the spectacular views. The atmosphere is calming and welcoming, celebrating authentic Japanese traditions and décor.

The hotel will feature 81 rooms, set around a central courtyard, an ever-changing garden of seasonal landscapes.

The Six Senses Spa will blend the traditional healing and Japanese Zen culture with the signature Six Senses wellness experience, with the healing rituals inspiring a sense of calmness and well-being. The retreat will be home to an all-day dining restaurant, speciality sushi restaurant, brew bar and cocktail bar.

Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, Saudi Arabia – 2023

Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea is the group’s first opening in Saudi Arabia and will take guests on a journey into seldom-experienced nature, wildlife and culture, setting new standards in sustainability and desert hospitality.

At the heart of the retreat, the Oasis is a breezy, canopy covered area home to native plants and water features. Within the Oasis, guests will find the lobby lounge, boutique, meeting spaces, Earth Lab and prayer rooms.

Elsewhere, the Artisan Village will host four pods where guests can explore the story of the region’s history and cultural heritage through arts and crafts, dance and music. The all-day dining restaurant will be complemented by a chef’s table and cooking school along with a juice bar, brew bar and water bar.

Surrounding the Oasis, guests will find a collection of open plan rooms and al fresco terraces, allowing guests to enjoy the astonishing serenity of the pristine landscapes. Clusters of villas are set atop peaks to offer panoramic views; the undulating roofs and décor will reflect the soft tones and textures of the sandy dunes.

A vision of its own, the Six Senses Spa, will feature self-shaded water surfaces and deep cold pools, a welcome contrast to the warm climate. Highlights will include a holistic anti-ageing centre, grooming centre, a sensory suite, treatment cabanas and pool bar. This retreat has been thoughtfully designed to leave the natural landscape almost untouched, to ensure the surrounding plains remain natural and authentic.
