Modern living at Hotel Winterrot: intelligent technology and stylistic versatility

JUNG Hospitality Solutions offer innovative electrical equipment and accessories to increase efficiency for the operator, improve comfort for the guest and optimise workflows for the staff. This also applies to Hotel Winterrot, located in the technology region of Karlsruhe, Germany. A smart hotel with intelligent building facilities that satisfies the needs of business travellers.

A place for meetings and business success

Hotel Winterrot Karlsruhe

The Hotel Winterrot is situated on the edge of the Black Forest and in the centre of the Karlsruhe technology region. It was conceived as a business hotel for high standards. The new building by the architect Ingo Gast from Graben-Neudorf, Germany, was opened in 2021 in the Palmbach area after a construction period of 18 months. The privately owned property has 40 rooms of various sizes, of which five are VIP rooms. Alongside an attractive breakfast room and the public restaurant with bar, the hotel offers meeting rooms and a sauna and fitness area.

The modern architecture and the interior of the 4-star hotel were significantly influenced by the owner and initiator of the project, Ahmet Genc. The design and decoration bear his hallmark in the smallest details and characterise the unique character of the hotel. “My guests experience an unmistakable design with a passion for quality, service and luxury”, he explained proudly. All areas are characterised in their design by a bold combination of the modern and stylistic versatility. Strong colours and organic forms combine with design and decorative objects, particularly in the public areas, into an eclectic complete picture.

The interior design of the private guest rooms appears more high-class with heavy materials and a lot of wood, but a selection of designer luminaires and elegant furnishings provide a creative mix of styles even here. The electrical operating elements are discretely integrated into the surrounding variety of colours, shapes and materials, and have been mostly arranged as simple multiple elements in the LS 990 design in white. A Smart Visu Server manages the building technology required for the hotel for room air conditioning and access control via KNX technology in the background.

Intelligent building technology with KNX

As a pioneer and test laboratory for future living, the hotel industry is always a few years ahead of the game. TIt is faster and more agile than other sectors, and the usage cycles for concept, design and technical equipment are shorter. Accordingly, guests also expect an enhanced experience: The hotel ambience must be more comfortable than their own homes, the interior design can be more experimental, and the technical equipment must offer more. The intelligent hotel can take advantage of this expectation by being smartly networked for more comfort, making optimal energy use and offering efficient processes.

The intelligent networking of devices, sensors and controls makes it possible to use resources in a targeted manner. Many advanced hotels use KNX technology, which enables centralised as well as individual control of lighting, shading, heating and air conditioning, security as well as multimedia. The KNX standard means cross-product and cross-country compatibility rather than isolated solutions. With the KNX system from JUNG, operators can reduce energy costs by up to 30 percent. Integrated into the hotel management software, information about room bookings, for example, automatically activates the smart JUNG building technology, and pre-programmed temperature profiles ensure that guests always enter a perfectly air-conditioned room that is neither cooled nor heated when it is empty. CO2 sensors also make it possible to automatically control the window openers or ventilation system, so that permanent monitoring of indoor air quality is guaranteed – an important component for future hygiene concepts. The control and coordination of the housekeeping can also be integrated into the holistic hotel technology concept.

With JUNG’s switch series, aesthetics and function can be wonderfully combined. In addition to the selection of 63 original colours from the Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier series, the JUNG LS 990 classic switch also offers high-quality real metal designs made of shiny chrome, cool stainless steel or elegant gold plating for a haptic and visual experience. The flush-mounted LS ZERO system brings the surfaces of walls or furniture and the operating element into flowing harmony.

The modern guest expects individuality, personality and authenticity from a contemporary hotel. Travel should be effortless and safe and offer a high level of service – underpinned by networked technology and digital tools, but also always with special experiences through personal care.
