Fettle designs new Cicchetti in Piccadilly, London

LA and London based interior architecture and design studio Fettle has revealed the interiors of San Carlo Group’s Cicchetti in Piccadilly, London. The new 7520 sq ft restaurant is spread across two floors. These feature a bar, 148 dining covers, and a private dining room that can seat 20.

Fettle’s designs convey the architecture of Venice and the work of residents, to craft a timeless, captivating design. The new restaurant brings the magic of a Venetian sunset with materials and details inspired by Venice’s water taxis.

The long stretching bar crafts a dramatic atmosphere, featuring a bevelled mirror ceiling and a curved back bar. The glossy, warm, timber bar, includes red-pink mosaic tiles in the profile, complemented by pink geometric upholstered bar stools. Fettle have included sections of bevelled mirror to reflect light from the array of chandeliers that adorn the restaurant space. Large colourful verre eglomise murals frame the walls paired with both bespoke upholstered chairs and banquette seating in tones of green and pink.

The warm yellow toned walls continue into the main dining room nod to the frescos of venetian villas. Fettle modernised the space through colour blocking and details including scalloped borders and chequered patterns. The studio also has framed walls in painted timber panelling to present a rhythm that draws out the restaurant’s classical roots.

The Private Dining Room features a bespoke rug that reflects the tones of its sky-painted ceiling. The room features custom wine display cabinets and a range of artwork on mirror panelled walls.

Throughout Cicchetti the flooring features a multitude of terrazzo finishes. These designs range from a chequerboard pattern in the restaurant, to striped scalloped detailing in the bar and marble palladiana in the washrooms.

The lighting is reminiscent of the traditional craftsmanship of Italy. Murano chandeliers light the space, casting a palatial glow across the dining room. The studio offsets the traditional ceiling fixtures with contemporary domed wall lights, each with a gently striped off-white glass shade. Mirrors mount the fixtures giving them a weightless aesthetic. Soft fabric shades on table lights and pendants bring out the comfort of local dining.

Andy Goodwin, Co-Founder & Creative Director of Fettle said: “We have carefully harmonised the legacy of the San Carlo brand with the contemporary aesthetic the group is taking. The overall scheme feels elevated but still captures the welcoming and playful nature of a neighbourhood Italian restaurant.”
