Accor, the leading augmented hospitality group, today announced the signing of a Tribe hotel at Manchester Airport, in partnership with H3 Hotels S.à .r.l.

The new 12,300sq m development will become the first Tribe hotel in England – and second in the UK – and will feature 412 rooms and suites. The Tribe brand aims to surprise travellers with an original, exciting and carefully curated offer that focuses on style rather than price, making it a leader in the design-led affordable luxury sector.

The nine-storey hotel will feature four restaurant and bar areas, working spaces, a gym and a crew lounge for airline staff travelling through Manchester, the UK’s third largest airport. Construction of the new-build hotel, for which planning permission has recently been granted is scheduled for later this year (subject to Covid 19 considerations), with the development expected to take two years to complete.

Tribe is designed to welcome guests by providing them with everything they need and nothing they don’t in vibrant living spaces, centered on a welcoming lobby area, and guest rooms offering the utmost comfort and latest technology.  The brand has a distinct design-led approach, appealing to guests by combining the laid back feeling of a trendy urban hub, creative workspaces and the relaxation of home, serving both travellers and the local community.

Thomas Dubaere, COO Accor Northern Europe, said: “The UK remains a priority long-term global market for development, investment, travel, business and tourism and this development reflects that. The signing of our second Tribe extends our lifestyle brand pipeline in the UK and offers greater opportunities for guests to experience the exceptional service and design culture that Accor offers.”

Commenting on the new signing, Philip Lassman, VP Development, Accor Northern Europe said: “We believe that the Tribe brand has huge potential in the UK.  The combination of design, art and smart service delivers an exceptional feeling of quality while still providing travellers with great value.  Designed to enable guests to live, work and play in contemporary interiors, the new Tribe hotel will appeal to a wide of range of travelers from the UK and international guests flying in to Manchester.”

Jonathan Haigh, Managing Director, MAG Property, and development leader for Airport City Manchester added “We are delighted Accor has chosen our scheme for its largest Tribe to date. It’s an exciting new brand to this market and as we look forward to a time when the Covid 19 crisis is behind us, we expect the new Tribe hotel to be extremely well received by guests, not only airport users for whom it is exceptionally well located for terminal access, but also for the business occupiers of Airport City Manchester and wider region who will benefit from enhanced amenity. “

Dexter Moren, Partner at specialist hospitality architects Dexter Moren Associates added: “We are delighted to be working with H3 Hotels S.à .r.l., Accor and MAG to deliver a landmark building establishing a new gateway to Manchester airport. The design for TRIBE Manchester aims to give the hotel a distinct urban identity within the Manchester Airport City masterplan, bringing a youthful energy with bold colour, contemporary architecture and materials.”

Tribe, which first launched in Perth, Australia thanks to the vision of founders Mark and Melissa Peters, plans to open more than 150 properties worldwide over the next five years, including new locations in leading cities like Amsterdam, Dubai, Hong Kong, New York and London.  The early success of Tribe underlines that this original, curated offering is delivering a product which not only has international appeal to guests, but also to owners and investors across the globe.

Tribe is just one of the lifestyle brands which Accor is developing in its portfolio and joins the likes of Mama Shelter, JO&JOE, greet and 25 Hours in providing a wider range of alternatives to guests and developers alike.
